Her fingers fit in my right hand perfectly…no, I don’t think words or mere adjectives could describe her. It was nighttime, and we laid on the grass watching the stars. Space!, so big, so…wonderful. Imagine, the odds it took to create this, the life on this planet. The Big Bang had to happen at the right time, the environment had to be perfect, we had to be exactly 92 million and 960 thousand miles away from the sun. And out of all the stars we could possibly see, it had to be this one. The stars…so beautiful. But it was as though it didn’t really matter, because right next to me was my universe, her. Completely out of chance came something so absolutely wonderful,…her. It didn’t matter that I had an Earth to hold on to, because I had her. And it didn’t matter that the sun provided warmth, and it didn’t matter that the light had given me life. No,…I could feel the warmth spreading through her fingers, and she was my life, her heartbeat racing against mine. I turned towards her, as she did the same. We listened to the silence for a few seconds; there was no need for anything to be said. Everything we felt for each other, the happiness, the joy, the love, was right there between us. And without any regret, I leaned over and kissed her. It was everything. From the day the smallest life and all its possibilities came to exist, to the day even the largest of stars came to vanish, I felt everything, my life and hers, come down to this. Just…one…fleeting…moment, that never was, but may be.
