I have been visiting this site on and off for years now. I even wrote one short humerous Transformers story ages ago in whigh Bumblebee gets into an accident with an ambulance but it was so long ago I only remember Ratchet was part of my username. I am a better editor than writer as I tend to loose patience in writing my own stuff but editing is easy. Words are like music to me and I can "hear" where it does not fit. I am very strict about the fic I read. If you are going to write about another person's characters you need to stay true to what the creator intended. One of the reasons I despise crazy pairings. James Lester in Primeval is married - to a woman. And professional. He isn't going to have sex with any member of the team he led. Lassie and Sean Spencer makes even less sense. And Transformers sex is only written by people who have little to know knowledge of the show and/or are so obsessed with sex . . . I mean robots? Really? And pairing Alfred Pennyworth with Bruce Wayne is a sign of a very very sick mind - if you read or write that you should seek immediate help. I despise slash - and it has nothing to do with how a view homosexuality either positively or negatively. In fact I think anyone who supports gay rights should be against it. Firstly, because it nearly always takes established straight characters and puts them into homosexuality relationships. Like a person can just switch between the two. It belittled the lives of gay people and it is disrespectful of the characters creators. A lot is put into the creation of a character and when you borrow one that someone else created you are taking on a sacred trust and great responsibility. Slash also belittles the friendships of the characters. I once saw an X-Files interview in which they spoke of the initial relationship between Mulder and Sully before it benamel romantic. Ithe expressed perfectly one reason I despise slash. Of how they had a strong love and trust that was more than something physical. And that a physical relationship would take something away from it. It used to be people of the same gender could care about each other, even love each other and sex had nothing to do with it. Strong loyal friendships. Heck, now two characters share an apartment together and they must be lovers. How many times has John Watson made it clear on "Sherlock" that HE IS NOT GAY YOU MORONS SO STOP WRITING IT! And it is extremely unlikely that when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote the original he even considered homosexuality - just two close friends who are like brothers to each other. I only like fanfiction that is true to the characters, true to the show or book or comic book, etc. And that is well written. If you expect me to take the time from the little free I have to read your story, I expect you to put some effort into your work. Run a spell check. I find reading a piece out loud exposes a multitude of sins. Or hire an editor. Heck, hire me - I'll take commissions. Really. If you want people to care about your work and write a review you need to care about it first. If you cannot take the few minutes to run a spell check why should I give you any of my time to read it. |
