An alternate imagining of Mrs. Gaskell's story, assuming Margaret had been hurt more seriously on the day of the riot. Intertwines elements of both the book and the BBC series, but focuses less on angst and more on the relationship of John and Margaret. Disclaimer: I do not own these characters, but am only presuming to borrow them for a while.

John and Margaret are very newly married. Whilst they find themselves to be the focus of Milton society, John and Margaret only have eyes for eachother. Much fluff but, you know, M-Rated for a reason!

There is a word that exposes the very soul of John Thorntons relationship with Margaret Hale. One word which defines their love, their life, and their desperate pursuit of one for the other. One word that ties together each shared moment, and embodies every aspect of a battle not so easily won: Suppression.

So the title is self-explanatory. The story is about our two favourite people falling in love.

Distressed by her mother's death and afraid for her brother's life, Margaret Hale turns to prayer for comfort and guidance. The answer she receives will force her to swallow her pride and depend upon another. But will she be able to do so?

What would happen if John had expressed his feelings before asking for marriage, and Margaret had thought about her words before speaking them? The story is better than the summary, please read and review.

He's waited for this so long, wanted Miss Hale so badly, and nearly dies from shock every time they can officiate the small, taken-for-granted moments of married life. He has no complaints. He has one complaint." Margaret has some Victorian Attitudes that need...adjusting. Good thing her husband is up to the task.

After Mr. Hale's passing, Margaret has to spend a week at the Thorntons while Mr. Bell arranges for her to move to London. She's uncomfortable at the idea of spending time with Mr. Thornton after everything that happened between them, and they soon find themselves in a compromising situation.

Mr. Thornton's mind is turned to his friend Mr. Hale during what should be a joyful season. But can it be joyful for those who have lost those dearest to them? And what of Mr. Hale's daughter and the burden she must bear? Is there a chance for happiness amid grief?

A prologue following young John Thornton after receiving the news that his father has committed suicide.

This was just a short little one-shot imagining the conversation between Thornton and Margaret after she went home with him on the northbound train, but it turned into a full fledged story. When brought to one's knees, it can be hard to learn to stay there. This is a somewhat dark, modern AU, focused around female dominance and combining story/sex.

This is a telling of North and South through John Thorton's perspective. Maybe not very original, but I always felt that he was such a complex character that he deserved a little more understanding of his inner workings from the reader. "T" just in case.

-BBC version- Margaret Hale had thought about visiting Milton to propose her business plan, but she feared the fresh shame and pain seeing John Thornton would bring. After all, his passions for her were over. 6 years later, they meet again. Cue the drama.

Margaret and Mr. Thornton gradually get to know each other better. With conversation, balls, politics, and Fanny.
