![]() Author has written 19 stories for Sonic the Hedgehog, Beyblade, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Dragon Age. ME: Hello, I'm Indie. I'm 25, Aquarius, infp, and I love writing, hamsters, video games and duvet-days. I joined this site to post my head-canons and daydreams. News: I'm back b*tches! For how long? Who knows. I sure as hell don't. Long story short - I am doing my PGDipEd. It's like the PGCE, which is a one year teacher-training course, except with essays and research studies thrown in on top of my teaching practise, lesson plans, marking and everything else. TLDR: I am a busy little bumble. But that's okay, because life happens. Priority fics: Gemini Hardest of Hearts Before the Fall Getting to know me: Well, I've been sitting here wondering what to write for a good ten minutes now. I wish I were more interesting and that I had more to say about myself. Ummm. Well, basically, you may as well apply every known British stereotype and apply them to me. I love tea and crumpets. I always have something to say about the weather. I will become unreasonably angry at queue-jumpers, almost as if they have done me some kind of gross, personal offence (which, let's be honest, they have), but I will do nothing more than stare heatedly at the back of their heads. I probably apologise more often than the average Canadian; last week I reflexively apologised to the door-frame I walked into. If please and thank-you don't come naturally to a person, I will assume that they were raised in a barn. I actually do love Shakespeare. And I will avoid confrontation like the plague. Why I'm a grown-ass adult and still writing fanfiction: Well, as a child I was always a little 'in my own world' and I suppose I've never really grown out of it. Any story, whether it be a book I read or a film I watched or a game I played, would have me thinking about no-end of possible spin-offs. I love to weave new tales and place known characters in different situations, imagining how they would react and grow. It's just... fun. Fanfiction gives me the freedom of writing my own stories without the task of creating my own 'world' in which these things happen. It's like, a lazy and half-assed kind of authorship which... well, pretty much matches everything else I do in that respect. Lazy and half-ass ftw. Musics I listen to while doing the writes: MUSE Currently hyping on Woodkid. Seriously, give a listen. I recommend 'Run Boy Run', 'Iron', and 'Conquest of Spaces'. What I'm currently reading: The Demon Cycle series by Peter V. Brett. First book is called 'The Painted Man' is definitely worth a read (in US, 'The Warded Man'). Follows the story of a young man, a boy, and a girl who live in fear of the demons who come and terrorise humanity each night. The world he's painted is so vivid and incredible and he has a way of making you care for his characters. He writes their development through their struggles so beautifully and... yeah, just can't praise this series enough. ( The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. If you haven't seen or read a book called 'The Name of the Wind' then holy fuck, go out there, find it, buy it, read it and weep with the realisation that you will never be this man. Rothfuss writes so beautifully, and cleverly, and cheekily, I just cannot sing his praises loudly enough. Whether he's describing a heart-wrenching scene of loss, a dramatic, terrifying, suspenseful, hold-your-breath fight scene, a eloquently described 'aromatic piss' after a night's drinking or the slow, gentle, excruciating unrequited love between the main character and his interest, Rothfuss' prose are like... I don't know. Music to the ears? A remedy for the soul? The main character, Kvothe, is charming, captivating, unforgivingly clever, but broken. The 'Chandrian', mythical beings no-one really believes exist anymore, are devastating and terrifying and mysterious and chilling to the bone. You fall in love with Denna almost as completely as Kvothe does himself. You hate the antagonists, you cheer for Kvothe and feel his pain when he's down. I mean, I just can't describe how much you need to read these books. I can't wait to read the next instalment. Suggested Reads: The Name of the Wind & A Wise Man's Fear, by Patrick Rothfuss The Painted Man, by Peter V. Brett. Daughter of Smoke and Bone, by Laini Taylor Among Thieves, by Douglas Hullick Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronté (If anyone's looking for where my inspiration for Rachel came from, look here. I think this is where is started.) Basically anything by Angela Carter; my dissertation was about her work. Her short stories are... interesting, to say the least. You really just have to read them. I highly recommend the Bloody Chamber, rewritten fairy-tales with a twist, and Heroes and Villains for the strength and appeal of her post-apocalyptic world. There's something hypnotic about her writing that never fails to captivate me and leave me wishing that I could write more like her. Also, if ya'll haven't read the Hunger Games and Harry Potter then there's something wrong with you. Those series are life. That is all. Please note: I do NOT own, or claim to own, any of the images I use as story covers – I just found them on google and slapped them together, 'kay? I figure whatever's on google is fair game. I also do not go by the name of Takao Aoki and therefore do not claim to own Beyblade, or any of the other franchises I write fics for. No profits are made from my writing I, IndigoRiot, do solemnly swear to review all the fics I read, regardless of the number of reviews, its age, or anything else. I have joined the Review Revolution. |
