Have you ever seen the stem of a perfect rose? One of the most beautiful roses I have ever seen had five, wicked, nasty thorns leading up to view the exquisite flower. It made me think how similar that rose was to love. If one must feel excruciating pain to know immense joy, then every rose has its thorn.

Takes place in Susan Kay's plotline, though can be read without knowledge of her novel. The Shah of Persia is displeased when his favorite magician Erik turns down his latest, most generous gift-a wife. He decides that he will not be beaten by his masked servant.. and orders for a new, "special" girl that he knows Erik could not possibly refuse... for her sake.

Act One saw Christine and the Phantom young, passionnate and headstrong. Act Two saw them to Coney Island and when tragedy struck, Christine was dead and Erik was left with their now-motherless son. Life after the fire at the Opera Populaire is wonderful for Christine and Raoul- at first. Within months, their freshly wedded bliss has worn off and soon they are no longer even speaking to each other. Christine's mind begins to wander back to her angel of music and the life she could have had with him.

Since her childhood, Céleste de Chagny, Raoul's sister, felt all the pressure of the world on her frail shoulders.
