yadda yadda, long-time lurker & beta

I've been an avid reader of fan-fiction for 9 years now. I love the creativity as it expands ones knowledge and appreciation of the story. I guess I also prefer it as there are a million ways a story can go and a million plotholes that a fanfic can account for. Fics don't limit mainstream stories to mainstream kinds of relationships either. They don't discriminate. And it's nice to read a book where the main character is the same sexuality, orientation, relationship status as you. We live in a world where most tv shows, movies and books aren't that open minded. They're getting better though... somewhat.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is if you're reading this, chances are I commented on what you wrote; so thank you for taking the time to write what you did. I'm sure I had fun reading it.

Observations Over the Years:

On reading fics I'd say there are two main types of writers out there: the Storyteller & the Wordsmith.

The Storyteller is just that, they grab you by the heart, yank it out with a cliffhanger, and then stop updating for a year. And then your whole life now totally sucks because you'll never know what happens next; all this despite the fact that you've been devotedly reading till 3am in the morning, and now have to go into work. A storyteller's expression of such an epic tale of awesomeness can use a bit of polishing now and then... but that's what betas are for ;)

The Wordsmith: Well these are the master's of expression, the artist at making the story come to life. It's like you're actually there. This does not mean wordsmiths have the greatest plot or character development to match such grammatically polished & poised verbiage. They just make it real. And that's when when prompts or muses to bounce ideas off of come in handy.

Most writers I've read are more one than the other; few are both in equal parts to the point that it resonates perfectly in their writings. But that takes time and practice, they did not start that way.(Eg: Esama, Sinnatious etc)

On Reviewing:

There are times when I can write a detailed essay, and times when I can just fav. The thing about me reviewing is that it depends on a number of things that have nothing to do with your story: Am I tired after a long day of crazies? Did I read your fic on my phone? Was a I reading without wifi? If answer to any of those is yes, then I most likely did not leave a review.

Pet-peeves:

They break the flow and believably of your story. It's like trying to watch a movie for the first time, only to have the director interrupt by switching it to the director's commentary halfway through. Please make note of it in the beginning, or save it for the end.

I swear in almost every chapter I read lately someone is doing this. Whats with all the apologizing? You've done nothing wrong. Do you know how long professional author can spend to write a book? Ever follow the Wheel of Time series? That's ten fucking years of fans waiting! Also, this is fan fiction; we are not paying you for your amazing service. You do not have the luxury or financial freedom of millions from book sales. It is unfair for us to feel entitled that you update on our schedule. You will write at your own speed, and you do not owe anyone anything. As much as I am impatient for you to update, I am not angry at you for having a life, and anyone who is is being a jerk. So stop apologizing. You have nothing to apologize for, we understand.

*begin bias rant* If you're trying to write slash, smut, war, rape, torture, child soldiers; are straight, monogamous, in high-school or have grown up in in the relative comfort and safety that is a first world country; then please do the rest of us who aren't a favor and do some research; maybe interview a gay friend or visit Somalia or something. No you are not stupid, but your ignorance gives me a blinding headache with it's shining romanticising rays.*End Rant*

On My fics:

So NOT a fast writer. I am more of a wordsmith, so while writing tenses and adverbs correctly isnt hard for me, I get story block quite frequently. Ideas come to me fast and then leave just as quickly. I am also my own worst enemy when it comes to endings. So I've been taking my time writing as things come to me, hence why I keep meaning to update but haven't in a while.

Lastly, I'm open to avaliable muses, if there' s anyone with a knowledge of FF7 canon interested. ;)
