Sep 3, 2011: Wow...it's been so long. So much reading to catch up on from my favorite fanfic authors. Which is quite nice since I've been reading novels strictly for work rather than pleasure these past 15 months. A little birdy told me to check out an author named SuiteSambo, who comes with an excellent recommendation saying 'I know how picky you are but you won't be dissapointed' lol. So I'm going to spend some time reading these stories and my favorite updates I've missed until my next editing assignment comes in. I'm literally on vacation for the next two weeks relaxing at home...well, as much relaxing as one can get while dealing with back to school for 3 rambunctious boys. Happy fanfic reading for me :-) Feb 16, 2010: Who says persistence, truth and integrity to ones own beliefs, ideals and dreams doesn't pay off huh?? After spending the last 2 1/2 years obtaining my Masters Degree and Editing credentials, I was finally hired at a major Publishing House three weeks ago and guess what I just received via FedEx this morning? My very first official manuscript for which I am solely responsible for bringing to national publication. Yaaahooooo!! I'm so thrilled!! It's 658 pages long currently and the Publisher wants it chopped down to about 550 pages within the next 4 weeks. I had my first web conference with the Author tonight and she's fabulous and not at all upset or bothered that her 'baby' is being placed into the hands of a first time editor. I'm nervous though...but very confident all the same. Hopefully this novel will be edited, printed and on the bookstore shelves by mid-summer. So, what has this got to do with this site?? Absolutely nothing lol...but I just wanted to send out a note to all my favorite authors on this site whose work I absolutely adore and follow and review religiously. Sorry guys, but it looks like my fanfiction days are coming to a screeching halt. No longer will I be able to devote such blissful time to reading your fabulous work...and so I don't want any of you (especially you Zaira, Lesley, Mara and a few others) to feel that I just jumped ship and am no longer interested once you no longer see my countless reviews. Okay? Hey, I've still got you and your stories on high alert, so I'll keep checking in from time to time. All of your current WIPs are at such an exciting and dramatic state right now that I hate to leave. So here's one last THANK YOU for sharing your stories and appreciating my reviews and opinions. In all reality, your work served as a learning curve and inspiration for my new and exciting editing career, so thanks for that too!! -MissDonna Just thought it was about time I added something to my profile...you know since I've only been on this site for about 2 years lol. I'm married to a wonderful man and we have three crazy high energy adorable little boys...well our oldest is 13 years old now and not so little anymore as he's already almost as tall as my hubby (who's 6 feet tall) and towering over me. Anyway, I'm a big Harry Potter fan who is currently reading all the books again out loud to my middle son who just turned 7 years old and has now decided he wants to read the books. We're in the middle of CoS and I must say that I'm still enjoying them, even though I think this is about the 5th reading. It's fun gaining a new perspective from a novice who is excited about and mesmerized by Harry's many adventures...he thinks Harry is soooooo COOL!! My NEW favorite genre of fanfics at the moment involve Sirius in a father/son relationship with Harry. I used to favor Snape/Harry father/son relationship fics, but there are just too many out there now that they're all starting to read the same or are just too incredibly ridiculous to bother with. My only pet peeve about this site is the amount of truly awful crap you have to surf through to find that rare gem of a story...for this reason, I pretty much rely on the favorites of my favorites to find the truly amazing authors and fics. I adore Harry/Ginny and truly believe that she is the perfect girl (the only girl) for Harry...they are soul mates (and if you don't believe me, just ask JKR). I'm strictly a canon girl when it comes to the HP pairings...so if Harry isn't with Ginny or if Ron doesn't end up with Hermione or if Remus and Tonks don't hook up, then that's a story I'm not interested in. Same goes for slash fics...unless it involves real canon characters who actually fit the profile (for example: Albus Dumbledore, from JKR's own mouth in fact), then that's a story I'm not reading. I try to review every fic I take the time to read: good or bad...and have been known to upset sensitive authors with my honesty. The way I see it, that review button is there for a reason. NO, its not there to bullshit and kiss the arse of the author. It's there to give honest feedback and opinion of the story you've just spent time reading. In other words, if I don't like it: I'll let you know why and if I do like it: I'll let you know why. It's as simple as that! Yes, I'm quite picky about what I choose to read and I absolutely abhor nonsense for nonsense sake. Check out my favorites lists...only the BEST fics and authors are allowed there :-) --MissDonna |
