*AN - HIATUS* Cortana is gone. The Master Chief is struggling with his new tumultuous emotions and is desperately trying to escape the pain. Fate is a twisted mistress. Set around three months after the end of Halo 4 in a sort of not exactly cannon AU, as my idea runs a slightly different path.

John-117 meets a strange girl from an uncivilized and unnoticed planet. As he gets to know her better they develop a relationship unlike either of them has ever experienced before. Chief/OC, rated M for language and future sexual themes.

The war is over and the Chief is left alone in a big world. He begins a new life training UNSC forces and seeks to discover if humanity was worth all the sacrifies he's seen. Can he find peace and perhaps even love in this new world or will he succumb to his past. Will his memories haunt him and cause ONI to remove him from the civilian populace for safety?

On Earth, finally having a moment to rest, the chief goes into standard health evaluations and required leave while he struggles with his loss and coming to terms with his feelings for the people around him, namely himself. John/OC. Rated M for later chapters.
