![]() Author has written 8 stories for Teen Titans, and Fullmetal Alchemist. Hello! This is Starfire-is-not-a-wimp version 2.0. Fanfiction creates a lot of mixed feelings within me but it still is and always will remain an important part of my life and close to my heart. The Do’s and Don’ts of Reviewing By Starfire-is-not-a-wimp Are you one of those people who R&R? No no no no! Not read and review. Review and Run! You type in the simple ‘update’ or ‘awesome’ and press the submit button. And frankly, that isn’t good. So, here’s a guide to fix these problems. Note: These are opinions. Don’t like it? Well, that’s not my problem. It’s a guide, and you don’t have to do what is recommend. Do’s: If you haven’t noticed by now, on the bottom of the review page it says “It is extremely helpful to use this opportunity to comment on an aspect of the story that can be improved. A well rounded critique is often the most rewarding tool for the writer. ” Take that advice to heart because besides the fact that it is true, it will really mean a lot to authors. -Tell why you liked it. What were your feelings? Sad? Happy? Did it make you laugh? Were the characters in character?- -Tell what you liked. Talk about your favorite part and why you liked it so much.- -Just like the above, tell what you didn’t like. Unless the fic was absolutely “perfect” or the author is a god, then I doubt that everything was perfect. You don’t have to say it harshly or not at all if you want. Just don’t be afraid if the author is a baby and thinks they/you/their sibling suck. It’s okay to have your opinions.- -If the fic happens to be “perfect”, to quote the critique thread on the Robin and Starfire shrine, “You better have a convincing explanation as to why”- -Making it long is a good thing, so as long you have something helpful to say. Not just hitting the enter key a gabajillion times.- Don’ts: -If you read the story, take a considerable amount of time to review since it hopefully took a considerable amount of time to write it. If you don’t have the time, simply state that in the review that you really enjoyed it, and you wished you had more time to type out a review properly or if possible, review later. It’s not gonna run away, you know.- -‘Awesome’ ‘Update’… These one word reviews are totally pointless. Yeah it's to the point, concise (maybe a little bit too concise) and everything they teach us in school, but when I look at reviews for some stories, I just wish people would take some more time out of their day to actually know why they liked it.- -Demanding/Commading the author to update with various threats is old and never was that funny to begin with. I quote every author on this site and everywhere else when they say, "The authors have lives." -Don’t write long reviews on what you did every second of your day. That’s why they made the PM system. Authors and their friends would take pages out of their fic to respond to one review and it was clogging up the bandwidth or whatever it’s called. Besides, it’s more private now hence the private part of the Private Message.- -Keep da chat spk in da chat rms n wherevah!1123456! ‘Nuff said.- -Annnnd here comes the cliché! Flaming is pointless and should be stopped! Normally it’s chocked full of cursing, spelling and grammar mistakes! If you didn’t like, you didn’t like it. Tell the author that or don’t. But stop with the cursing please, flamers. If they didn’t curse at you, you have no right to curse at them.- If anyone has any more suggestions, PM me, as I am more then happy to learn more tips for good reviewing! After all, we should, as critics, be as helpful as possible. Random Things about the Author: My name is not important. Neither is where I live or how many televsions I have. The most important thing is that I am me and nothing is going to change that. My passions are writing and reading, Teen Titans, and comic/manga/anime stuff. I tend to be a bit grammar snob. I'll critque where and when I want to with my penname. I'll never lash out at the person...maybe the story but never the person. Flaming is wrong. Flaming is a form of bashing...and don't even get me started on bashing. If you can't tell, I love the show Teen Titans. It is my life. Just about all my fanfiction is centered around that. I am an otaku. And cosplaying is fun. I tend to say "What I mean..." a lot, but I will always mean what I say. In the real world, I'm so quiet people sometimes forget I'm in the room. But on the internet...I never shut up! I had many reasons for taking my previous fics down. And also, I have the habit to not update for ages and then suddenly I do. I am a bookworm and darn proud of it. Don't even ask me what my favorite book is, I'm not quite to sure myself. I always have recommendations though!! I play the violin and piano. Friendship is something that I could not live without. I don't know where I would be if not for my friends and family. Kingdom Hearts and The Legend(s) of Zelda: The BEST games ever!! As of Friday, October 13th, 2006, the tennis team which I am faithfully on, BECAME FIRST PLACE IN OUR CONFERENCE!!! As of...someday in October, 2007, the tennis which I am faithfully on, BECAME FIRST PLACE IN OUT CONFERENCE FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW!!! I am a fangirl, squeals and all. To all the anonymous reviewers out there who deserve to be recognized. You deserve a reply just like everyone else, and the world needs to know anonymous reviewers are very important to FF.net -nobody's princess: When I read your review, seriously, I couldn't stop smiling. That was one of the most complimenting reviews I've ever gotten. I also agree with you a lot on the RobXStar stories. You hit the nail on the head with that one. You have no idea how much that review meant to me. You know that warm fuzzy feeling you get after reading a really nice review? Yeah that's what I exactly what I got. :D Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo Friday, September 15th, 2006, 7:30pm-9:10pm Did you see it? Because if you didn't your mother may just have been a salamander. |
