Although I have been recognised as a gifted writer, my strength has always been professionally-related prose ("The Literature" we call it in the ivory towers of science to make it sound that much more important and mysterious {grin}). The stuff I write is dry, didactic, and extremely effective at getting the how, what, when, where, and why across. This is exactly how you want to write when clearly and concisely communicating the next big breakthrough in medical technique or technology. It would bore y'all to tears, trust me. My best friend, lover, and soul-mate of 15 years, on the other hand, has the gift of weaving character, plot, and story together into wondrous visons of other times, places, and dimensions. She uses the same words I do, but she casts some kind of magic I just can't comprehend on them and her results are marvelously different from mine. It is a gift she shares with my father, the author of a dozen books you could pick up at the Barnes and Noble down the street. So you end up with a beautifully symbiotic relationship. I walk the halls of mundania healing the sick and improving the health of body and mind, while she travels the skies of fantasia uplifting the soul through writing some of the best imagery I, in my admittedly blissfully biased opinion, have had the joy to read. I must go to work every day, but I get to come home and be the first to read what she writes. I still think I get the best end of the deal. Read the story "Nine Ravens" under Cartoons-Teen Titans and you'll see what I mean. When I'm not at work or discussing her writings, I enjoy walking and talking with friends and reading- lots of reading, and of course dreaming. I couldn't ask for a better partner to dream with... =
