Author has written 8 stories for StarTrek: Voyager. I’ve watched Star Trek since the very first episode aired in 1966, which makes it the single thing I’ve done consistently in my entire life—aside from breathing and eating. Yet, until Voyager ended, I’d never had the urge to continue the story myself. Chakotay and Seven simply intrigue me as a couple. They have enough similarities to be compatible, but enough differences to keep things interesting. And with Chakotay’s spirituality and Seven’s trust in science, there’s an opportunity to explore the gray area between science and faith—which for someone who follows a spiritual path similar to Chakotay’s, isn’t as antithetical as it sounds. Becoming Light is a planned series of stories following Chakotay and Seven after “Endgame.” I use events from Star Trek: Voyager and the character backgrounds from Jeri Taylor’s Pathways as canon. I wiggle my way around the conflicts and plot holes to the best of my ability. There’s nothing overly explicit in these stories, but some are rated M for suggestive content and language. I know that in the Star Trek universe, humans have supposedly evolved beyond swearing, but the fact is that humans swear—and humans in desperate situations swear a lot. I don’t have to worry about network censors or getting butts in theater seats to increase the gross. I come from story-telling cultures—and I am a writer’s daughter. These are stories about lives, but they are also stories about stories—an exploration of the ways we pass our humanity and heritage on to our children and grandchildren. Once, long ago, my dad and I were arguing--the topic long-forgotten--and he said that if I'd "attempt to regain my command of the English language," I could be a good writer. I like to think he'd appreciate these stories. So, this is for my dad, Many Words. Thanks for the kick in the ass, Pops. :-) |
