I had intended this to be a one shot AU, but after some requests, I'm continuing it. What would have happened if Ryan's bullet had found Castle in 301? "Was that what you wanted to tell me, Kate?" Castle asked."Yeah," Beckett confided, "not that it would have changed anything." "It would have changed everything. Kate." The rating has been upped to M for safety chapter 75 and beyond

Low and rough, scraping at his vocal cords with a touch of something dark and smoky that tugs at Kate's gut, exciting and scaring her in equal measure.

Set during 4x01: "Rise", immediately after the swing scene. Kate is shocked by how much seeing Castle again affects her. She can't get him out of her head. "So…what? I just wait? Behave like old times? Let things crawl on like before, with neither of us admitting what we really want?"

Would Kate show up at the loft and what happens next? "His footfalls greet her like an approaching army, striking fear and terror, laced with excitement and something that feels suspiciously like arousal, within her."

Post-5x06. "You want more kids?" she asks, and it almost comes out like a criticism as she fights to hide her surprise. "Well, I'd like the option." And since that really only leaves the option of 'kids with Kate' hanging in the air, she does the only thing she can do, which is hop right over his declaration and keep on moving like it never happened.
