I'll get a great idea for a story, or sometimes a not-so-great one that just won't leave me alone (mostly the latter), and I'll enthusiastically start to write it. Then I run out of ideas and leave it for a while to brainstorm, and then I end up losing interest. This can happen for one (or more) of several reasons; most often, it's because I realize my plot is cliché or the characters are OOC or I just don't like the way it's going, but to rewrite it would be too troublesome. Sometimes I just can't think of any good ideas. And sometimes I lose interest in the fandom, so I don't care enough to keep writing. "Fickle" is a term that describes me to a T. I can be the metaphorical 'immovable object' on some opinion of mine for ages and ages, and then I'll suddenly change my mind so quickly I nearly get whiplash. Likewise, I can love a fandom to pieces for years, and then one day I just won't care about it anymore. (This is why asking me my favorite song/movie/whatever is a bad idea--you'll get a different answer every time.)

I have counted the number of unfinished stories I have on my computer--and note that this is not counting anything written before Christmas of '06. As of January 2010, the ones that actually have their own documents total 28. No kidding. Including the little plot bunnies that are anywhere from just a few paragraphs long to probably long enough to qualify for their own documents but that got stuck in the "Random Stuff" doc instead, I have 42--forty-two--unfinished stories. As opposed to two I have posted here, and one I posted on Fictionpress. The largest, by the way, is approximately 15k words.
