![]() Author has written 21 stories for Lord of the Rings, Fushigi Yuugi, Tales of Symphonia, Dragon Age, and Tales of Xillia. "Windborn" is something of a misnomer. I was born with a water alignment but am a wind-spirit by nature. The combination of two flowing elements makes me very . . . difficult to pin down, which can be just as annoying for me as for everyone else. I recently graduated with my Master's Degree in Writing Popular Fiction and have written one complete original novel, though the plots for half a dozen more are running amok in my brain demanding to know why I'm bothering with fanfiction again. (Answer: because when I sit down to work on the original stories, all my characters clam up. :kicks various story representatives in their collective shins: ) Now, while I'm sure all the classes and critiquing did improve my writing, primarily it has made me a very critical reader. I can't even look at most of my own older work without wanting to go bury my head in a hole for embarrassment. Hobbies: Writing fanfiction? Gee, who would have guessed . . . Origami - I make jewelry. Tabletop RPGs: Dungeons & Dragons, Legend of the Five Rings, World of Darkness. Computer and console games. My room could do double-duty as an armory with all the sharp pointy things I've collected. Oh, and I sing. Church choir/song leader/occasional wedding singer and all that jazz. According to this quiz: http :// easydamus.com /character .html (copy/paste/remove spaces), I am a True Neutral, Human, Ranger/Bard (lvl2/lvl2). Current Fandoms: Tales of series, Dragon Age. There are other things rolling around in my head somewhere, but these are primarily eating my brain. Past Fandoms: Lord of the Rings, Ronin Warriors, Fushigi Yugi, Harry Potter, Bleach. :looks down at old fics: Not a very good track record, is it? I am very, very fickle with my fandoms. Madly obsessive, while it lasts, but fickle. Opinion of pairings and yaoi/yuri: If you can give me some justifiable reason why two characters should be paired together, then be my guest. However, really random pairings make me twitch, as does most non-canon yaoi/yuri. (I'm getting better about it.) As a writer, I take offense to things I interpret as a perversion of character. Fanfiction is all in good fun, yes, but have a little respect for the authors' creations! Things that will make me stop reading: Excessive typos (pot calling kettle black, here, I'm terrible with these myself) and grammar errors, particularly dealing with verb tenses. Perversion of characters. Pointless foul language/bathroom humor. . . . Not much else, really. Hook me with a strong plot and characters I like, and I'll tolerate a lot of poor writing for it. OCs: Hey, I use them to excess myself, so it's not my place to complain. Basically, as long as the character is well-developed, go for it. OC pairings are hard to do well, however, and shouldn't interfere with canon relationships, unless there's a bloody good reason and you're incredibly good at it. Or, I suppose, if there's a legitimate in-story explanation. (In the Pretear manga, for example, though it seems like Himeno and Hayate have come together, Sasame practically says outright that he hasn't thrown in the towel yet, so an OC with Hayate is not unreasonable.) Anyway, that's that. Here is where the posted fics stand at the moment: "Sparring Practice" - Dragon Age - One-shot ficlet from my Cousland Warden's childhood, an earlier encounter with Cailan. "Moonlight" - Tales of Xillia - One-shot revisiting Alvin years after the game. "Synergy" - Tales of Symphonia - One-shot mini-ficlet, based on a scene in Tethe'alla Hen. "Prelude" - Tales of Symphonia - One-shot cutscene-type ficlet written for a friend's tabletop RPG. Battle of the Four Gods - Fushigi Yugi - Chapter five is complete. On hold. Much as I enjoyed playing with it, who knows? I may go back. "Rain" - Fushigi Yugi - One-shot ficlet written on a whim; a desperate attempt to NOT use an OC. Fairly successful, too. The Bright Bird - Lord of the Rings - on hold. Chapter ten is about a quarter finished. And I really don't care much for this story anymore. "Celebrian's Tale" - Lord of the Rings - Complete. One-shot piece written for a Tolkien class. |
