This story picks up at the end of Series 3, Episode 3, and provides an alternate ending. I've often said I wished the owners of LTIH would take a page from A Place to Call Home and give this episode an alternative ending to keep the series going with Kate central to it all. This is my attempt to do just that.

Life in the McKenzie -Dawson household moves on and family life with the twins begins to unfold. Some fuzzy and warm moments, some challenging moments too.

This started out as a story taking place just after Gillian's wedding. It initially was about Caroline and Flora's visit with Ginika in NYC which afforded her more insight into her beloved Kate. To Caroline's surprise, she bumped into an old friend and is gingerly moving into a promising new relationship as she continues to cope with her new reality and loss. Part 1 of a trilogy.

Kate McKenzie has got her dream job at Sulgrave Heath, the oldest and poshest boarding school in Yorkshire. She's got her dream flat, too, but there's only one problem - the intimidating headmistress lives next door. But she begins to realize that the woman next door isn't exactly what she seems...and that her discovery could have consequences both personal and professional.

As we head towards series three being aired on UK TV, there are rumours that Last Tango will not have the happy ending that the fans are hoping for. I am indebted to Sally Wainwright for her wonderful creations but just in case she has trauma and sadness in mind for Kate and Caroline, here at least they will remain happy ever after...

These character's of Sally Wainwright have captured my imagination. I've never wanted a good book to end - or an exceptional Series such as Last Tango in Halifax. So I'm experimenting with taking them beyond the storyline while attempting to stay true to what Sally has given us to this point, the end of season 2. This was originally going to be a chapter of The Future is Past but it seemed...bigger than that. It's set between S2, Ep4 and S2, Ep6 where Caroline had a lot of time on her hands and a lot of thinking to do. The title is taken from a Pablo Neruda poem. I haven't written in a looooooong time but Last Tango in Halifax and in particular the characters of Caroline Elliott and Kate McKenzie have inspired me to try to imagine what happened after Ep6, S2 ended. The characters don't belong to me but to the immensely talented Sally Wainwright - I hope she won't mind me borrowing them & I'll try to leave them pretty much as I found them.
