Miller estimated that policing this beach with four deputies will definitely cost the county about $1, 920 a weekend initially. If mass arrests are required by the presence with nudists south of crossover 13, Miller said the purchase price would jump to $21, 000 a weekend.
''The public can expect deputies to be using common sense and good judgment. They are going to exercising police discretion, and they'll not get involved with matters of taste, '' Cooper said.
The sheriff said he don't have enough staff to enforce portions of the ordinance dealing with gear.
Miller told the Monday gathering that they hoped the County Commission would post signs together with billboards announcing the nudity ordinance to make sure that people unaware of the law would not be charged.
The National Park Assistance, which manages Canaveral, has had a hands-off stance, announcing previously it's going to neither assist nor interfere with deputies. David Wasserman, an Orlando attorney representing this nudists, told the group he has prepared a lawsuit challenging the ordinance; he hopes to file it soon. Wasserman said the fit raises the question of whether the sheriff can enforce county laws on federal territory.
