This story starts at Captain Montgomery funeral and takes a drastic turn. There is nothing from the 4th season. Kate has a rough time after getting shot, a year later she sets out to improve her relationships with everyone most importantly Castle. As she tries she and the rest of the 12th must deal with a serial killer who's hitting too close to home.

Lanie and Esposito's wedding leads a now broken up Kate and Rick back together, in a very unexpected way.
