![]() English is not my first language, not my second, not even my third. But I like it, so I may as well write in English. I like the diversity, the unexpected. I was taught that tolerance and acceptance of the simple fact that people view the same things differently is crucial. This said, I have to add that I am quite sarcastic at times because I can't stand stupidity. And I'm not a grammar nazi, but when I see "defiantly" instead of "definitely", "your" instead of "you're", "his" instead od "he's" (and so on, and so on) I simply cannot read a story no matter how good the plot. I will probably never write a fanfic, because I have enough of writing in my day-to-day work. And I review only if I think the story is either very good or dismal. You know which category you fall into... Tips for the aspiring authors: 1. Mies van der Rohe was right: less is more. Think about it especially when you are on the verge of writing a lengthy description of facial features or clothes. 2. Adjectives are support for... hmm, let's say "intelectually challenged" (most of the time). It's the verb that rules and the noun that gives support. So treat adjectives like weeds - most must be eradicated, no matter how pretty they seem to you. 3. Think about the plot before you start writing (unless you write PWP; in this case I have nothing to say to you). 4. Read what you have written before publishing (even if you have a beta). 5. Ask yourself a question: why am I even writing? |
