![]() Does anybody read these things???? I am a devoted christian. I love God. 16 without a driver's license 'cause driving is too mainstream. Everybody knows that you get around with horses these days. Especially those named Epona. Or am I mixing worlds up? 'Sup, fanfiction world? Ordinary Citizen here. I believe this is the place where I talk about myself and be all humble about my writings and such, but... I don't have any! So how about we skip over that and stick with the boring subject of myself? I've been here for quite some time, just floating around and reading fics here and there. Some time ago, I decided to actually upload some of my stuff here with a different name. Needless to say, it died. Maybe if I actually updated it might have lived, but by then, I wasn't in the mood to finish writing it because, quite frankly, it was bad. I am now editing it and working on another part of it, hoping to revive it again and allow it to spread its wings once more. But maybe I should just leave it in the dust because I just hate OCs, and this particular fic has one that is a freaking main. Oh well, we'll see... Now, I said that I hate original characters. Well, hear me out, those who like them. The ones I hate are the ones that are poorly written and clearly a self-portrayal of the author him/herself. They act as self-inserts for the author and it's just so obvious that it annoys the heck out of me. Also, these "self-insert" usually suffer being a Mary Sue or a clichéd archetype, which can only be salvaged if the author is a good writer. Quite frankly, there aren't that many here. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I myself am a good writer. I'm quite the opposite. In fact, I've fell into the many traps and mistakes I see a lot of people making here. I've only begun to realize why my previous stories would never work by reading others who made the same mistakes I did, and I still struggle to fix them. But too many times have I read fic after fic that held OCs that just did not work at all for the fic to be genuinely good. I guess that's why I haven't really uploaded anything here. I do write, it's just that I'm afraid that I might make a lot of mistakes for my writing to be considered good among the fanfiction community. That, and I have a low self-esteem. Aren't I just a happy bundle of confidence? But I'm working on that. I'm always reading books as well as fanfiction while writing so I can compare mine to others. That way I know I can learn how to get better at writing. Sure, sometimes I might get depressed or feel like I'm incompetent compared to others, but I think it really helps me to see what I'm doing well in and what I need to do to get better. But, that's just me. By staying around here and actually posting something, I think I can pave my way to become a better writer. I hope you guys here can support me (if you're reading this), just like you support every able author who are here and bless the site with their wonderful works as well as those who just began to write and, like me, are doing this to get better. I'm an unashamed fan of: Books- Sherlock Holmes Lord of the Rings The Legend of Drizzt series The Leviathan trilogy Percy Jackson Artemis Fowl Eragon Harry Potter A Song of Ice and Fire--the Game of Thrones series Hyrule Historia (it IS a book, just sayin'...) Manga- Fairy Tail Nurarihyon no Mago Black Butler Kuroko no Basuke TV shows- Avatar: The Last Airbender--Hands down the best children's show ever created. It is so great how they handled themes such as responsibility, honor, acceptance, etc. in such a mature manner. And should I say again that it is a children's show? Plus, bending is cool. I seem to be really attracted to fire-benders. Azula, anyone? The Legend of Korra--I don't like this show as much as The Last Airbender because, quite frankly, I don't like Korra. She contrasts waaayyyy too much with the Aang I knew and loved, being too rash and being more of an "act first then think" kind of person. But I'm also glad that Korra isn't like Aang, because otherwise the show would be just an extension to use Aang's character with a new skin, which is lame. Still, Korra just isn't my fav. And the love square thing between her, Mako, Bolin and Asami is really stupid... Danny Phantom Phineas and Ferb House--I watched this show because Dr. House reminded me so much of Sherlock Holmes. And then I read somewhere that this show was in fact based off of the detective and his stories, with a doctor instead of a detective being the protagonist. But let's be honest here. With the way House is portrayed, the two jobs can practically be the same thing. Law and Order: SVU Sherlock--I personally think this is one of the best modern day adaptations of any classical series, period. And that is thanks to brilliant directors/writers like Steve Moffat and Mark Gatiss. How they managed to keep the heart and soul of the original Sherlock in pristine condition while still implementing new, modern ideas we will never know. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles--I grew up watching the classic, and I remember that even thought I had no idea what the heck was going on, I absolutely loved watching it. And now there's a 2012 remake. I think Nickelodeon did a good job keeping the core of the show the same while adding in new, "modern" stuff, as I should say. They kinda had to. The world of the late 1980s-1900s are way different from the 2000s, maybe even the 2010s. But what really matters is how well they incorporated it, and I say they did it pretty well. They're still teenage mutant ninja turtles but the characters now seem to fit more into the world of the 21st century as well as the actual world of the cartoon itself. The CGI is great and the fighting is top-notch animation. Games- The Legend of Zelda--For now, Twilight Princess is my favorite because it introduced me to the franchise and it was perfect in every which way. Man, I love that game. From the game mechanics to the story to the graphics to the characters. I just love it all. The only gripe I have is that it's too dark. Literally. The color scheme (or lack thereof) really lowers the impact of what is otherwise a beautiful world. It's just a nit pick for me, though. I huge nitpick. I would never be able to hate the game, if only because of Midna. Ezlo is challenging her for my favorite companion spot, though. Sonic the Hedgehog SSBB--I play Link main, but I also like Sheik, Toon Link, Samus, Luigi and Marth. Maybe I should focus on one, though, because I absolutely suck at all of them. I think I should be ashamed to call Link my main. I'm going to master him one day, though. Just you wait. My "REALLY WANNA" list: REALLY WANNA play Fire Emblem REALLY WANNA play Metal Gear Solid REALLY WANNA play Bioshock (all three games) REALLY WANNA play The Last of Us REALLY WANNA steal my friend's PS3 and play Portal and Assassin's Creed REALLY WANNA watch the 3rd season of Sherlock like, now |
