Time period: 1800s. In a town where freedom is obscured, happiness constructed, sexuality contained, bright-eyed Lena Luthor threatens to end this way of processed life. And if her relationship with childhood friend Kara Danvers is to flourish, it may be a necessity that she does.

"Did you get what you wanted?" Lena freezes in the doorway of the prison visiting room, her breath catching in her throat. Supergirl leans against the far wall, arms crossed and eyes hard; there is no warmth or curiosity in that question, just brittle, cold accusation. [Post 4x01]

Lena and Kara have an arrangement, they are friends with benefits. It works best for them and keeps things from getting complicated. But what happens when Lena's ex comes into town and things don't seem as easy as they were before.

Kara is caught between being herself and being the person the public wants her to be. Enter Lena Luthor, the refreshingly blunt retail worker who doesn't even know who Kara is; this could either be the start of something wonderful, or something uniquely bizarre. She talks to Kara's friends to find out her chances. Misunderstandings and realizations abound in this fluff piece. Mon El appears, but only to further the plot and make Lena jealous.

Lena needs help, and doesn't know who to turn to. Well, that's not entirely true. She does know, she's known for a little while, but still doesn't want to face it. Kara is the obvious choice in her head (and in her heart). When the lines between fake and real start to blur, Kara can't help but wonder if this is the universe trying to tell her something (even scream it at her face).
