Katherine's time in Elena's body is running out but there is something she needs to do. She enlists Caroline's help and together they travel to New Orleans. Will the trip turn out to be what either of them expects?

All Elena wanted to do was keep her friends happy, but the guilt nipped at her. After learning that Damon slept with Rebekah, she no longer feels like she owes him anything. Instead, she heads to the Mikaelson mansion to come clean.

A follow up to "this is not the path I wanted us to take", but can be read separately. Elijah is there to help Elena transition into her new life, knowing that his purpose will eventually come to an end. Elena isn't so sure.
