![]() Apart from being fluent in English, I also speak three additional languages, though sadly no longer very well: conversational Arabic, Bengali and conversational Spanish. I've always been buried in books, I'm not about to list classics and award winning novels, I wasn't always into books like that until I matured a bit. But I'll always be thankful for the many Point Horror and Goosebumps books that got me into reading. It was those books that caused me to write and plague my mind with story ideas. Over the years, I started broadening my reading list and started reading more contemporary pieces by writers such as Malorie Blackman and Bali Rai. I wouldn't say they are my favourite authors, but I am fond of their ideas and writing style. But I'll always respect R. L. Stein for his works; they're awesome! If I had to mention any classical writing, or some pre 1930s, then I do like Jane Austen's works, mainly Mansfield Park, Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice. I also really love reading To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee. I read this at school and was so moved by it I took the time out to read it again. It's such a thought-provoking story and I love the juxtaposition of adult affairs seen through the eyes of children. But ultimately, my favourite book ever would have to be... The Very Hungry Caterpillar... What? I'm not joking... Stop laughing, it's a book! It was the first book I read and it has stayed with me for so long. I love that hungry caterpillar, all the food it eats and then in the end when it turns into a butterfly... *suppress tears*... it's just so beautiful! Stuff I like: I really like the Final Fantasy series, especially FFVIII; I've been playing that game since I was 13! The relationship that develops between Squall and Rinoa is something I've always thought was sweet, realistic and romantic. I have a list of favourite fanfics below, but in general I like mainly reading about Squall and Rinoa within romance and humour genres. I don't mind angst and tragedy if it is written well, and so long as in the end it all works out. I know real life isn't so rosey, but c'mon it's fanfic, lets make it a 'happily ever after'. I have played the following FF series and sub series: FFX, FFX-2 FFXIII, Crisis Core, Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts 2. But I wouldn't write on those fandoms purely because I have no interest. In terms of Anime, I like Cardcaptors and Naruto, though I do find the character Naruto annoying at times, I prefer Sasuke - he's so much more complex. (Sasuke and Squall? Yeah, I have a thing for introverts). Favourite Movie? Hmm, probably Disney Pixar's A Bug's Life... Oh be quiet, it's a movie isn't it?! Stuff I don't like: I don't like fanfictions that end in tragedy since I'm too sensitive to read stuff like that. I understand that some times tragedy is unevitable, but a peeve I have is when authors run a series of mishaps and issues that have no relevancy to the actual plot, or in no way add to the character development. I don't like impossible pairings/non-straight pairings. I hate SquallxSeifer pairings, its just completely ridiculous seeing they spent the whole four disks trying to kill each other; I really don't see how people interpret some unconsciencious hidden love between the two. (Squall loves Rinoa, get over it!) I don't like Rinoa bashing, or any other character bashing for that matter. In my opinion it just makes poor writing and really discredits the writer. I know people will argue with me on the above three points, but when it comes to FFVIII, even though fanfiction allows the fan to take something which already exists and manipulate it to their own liking, no matter how many times you play the game or what you do between Squall and Seifer, this scene will still take place: |
