I vow never to abandon a fic, unless I die or get stranded on an island with no wifi.

Welcome 2016! It's January and I just wanted to recommend some of my favorite fics last year, all are complete unless stated otherwise, and I've just realized that almost all of them contain at least a little romance. Basically, the list below is a refined version of my favorites list.

Harry Potter

(None of these actually feature Harry as the main character. Sorry. Though they are in chronological order, sort of.)

Night and Day by C.Queen - This is the story of how Nymphadora Tonk's parents got together. Her mum, Andromeda Black, slytherin and sister to Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy, meets the Hufflepuff muggleborn Ted Tonks and together they defy logic and all common sense. Full of sweet and funny moments, just under 60,000 words long.

Asleep in the Common Room by the potter family -A sweet Jily fic about 4,000 words long.

That Potter Boy by BadgerInMySoup - For six summers, Lily Evan's parents hear all about that Potter boy. Then comes the seventh. About 1,500 words, short and funny.

Give Me A Prophecy by omateido - This just gets to the heart of a (more like every) time travel fic, no romance, just Hermione. A very very angry Hermione. One-shot, Under 1000 words. A bit cliche but that's kind of the point.

Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness by Thanfiction -A famous fic, Neville's POV during the year the golden trio was on the run. Darker and rated M for non-smutty reasons. 256,506 words long. I also enjoyed Thanfiction's 20 Random Facts lists.

Of Cobbing and Cuddling by Bumbledbee - After saving Scorpius Malfoy from the wrath of Professor McGonagall, Rose Weasley's day to day life begins consisting of more Scorpius Malfoy than she can probably handle. Romance and Humor, 61,000 words long.

The Hospital Bed Monologue by GraeLiars - This author has produced plenty of hilarious and beautiful Scorpius/Rose and boy I am thankful. This particular fic is tamer than the majority of her other fics and only 7,000 words long. Rose wakes up in the hospital and tries to make sense of the world but one question is at the top of her list, where is her Man-Pillow?

Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit

(All of the below are of the "Girl in Middle Earth genre")

The Skipper by LinzRW - One of my favorite fics of all time. Contains hilarity and excellent character development. Be prepared for dwarves, twisty plot lines, and over 100 chapters of an amazing and heart wrenching adventure. While technically incomplete, book one spans the first 79 chapters and updates, while infrequent, do still come for Book two. Trust me, it's worth reading all 417,280 words.

Don't Panic! by boz4PM and it's sequel Okay, NOW Panic! Are the two most realistic LoTR fanfics I've ever read. I mean this completely seriously. They cover everything from the language gap and 'woman troubles' to homesickness and hard choices. 136,860 and 465,490 respectively.

The Games of the Gods, Book One: Setting the Board by vericus -Insanity and ridiculousness aside this is the story that converted me to the idea that immortality wasn't necessarily bad. I'd recommend reading this before reading The Skipper as it has some of the same 'random' humor, only more intense and not quite as deep. More of a funny and dramatic romance novel. This story is aware of all "Mary-sue"ness and I really can't say more without spoilers. It's fun, it's funny, and if you like crack fics with some (I only said some) actual substance you should read this. 285,571 words but it feels like only 20,000.

Sherlock

The Five Stages Of An Illogical Death by AndInTimeThisTooShallPass - 'Molly Hooper was going to die soon'. Sometimes, awareness of the end can provoke you to create a new beginning. Angst, Sadness, Redemption, maybe even Love. 21,595 words long.

Do shut up, John by Fayth3 - Sherlock is very precise in his speech so when he accidentally lets something slip it's up to John to find out why. Sherlolly. 7,410 words long.

He Made You Cry by BellesYellowRose - Molly Hooper can feel the tension of the last few months building up. What with killing the world's only Consulting Detective, hiding him, and lying to everyone she knows Molly is not sure how much more she can take. Then after a horrible day at the morgue she breaks down. One-shot, 6,642 words long.

(I'm obsessed with Felicity)

Monsters in the Dark by somethingelseornotatall - Transfer from AO3: Felicity has the ability to see guardians, spirits that protect the majority of people. Some guardians talk, others don't. Oliver Queen's is a sassy, chatty beast. Nearly 100,000 words long. Pretty awesome AU.

Felicitas by Jess_S - This fic is actually on Archive of Our Own, Sort of a crossover with Highlander, but watching that movie isn't necessary. All you need to know is that Felicity is basically immortal, badass, and full of secrets to be dramatically revealed. Incomplete but not abandoned, updates come every few weeks. 200,000 words long. (When clicking on the link, just delete the 'fanfiction.net/acount/' part that stops you from rerouting. Technically it might be on this site too but she posts updates there first.)

You died (and then you were supposed to come back) by RosyLorgnette - The ending! Felicity shapes herself into a weapon after Oliver dies. 6,662 words long.
