Author has written 2 stories for Shadowrun. Lord, but some people don't make any sense what-so-ever. Hmmm? What I'm talking about? Why, the 'Harry Potter/Lord What's-His-Face' crowd, of course. They don't much keep in touch with reality, do they? Tromedlov is a mentally deranged, sadistic, psychopathic bastard that killed Harrys parents, caused UNTOLD amounts of damage and destruction, killed anyone that as much as looked at him wrong, tortured anyone he damn well felt like, and went out of his way to make Harrys life even MORE miserable than anyone elses...and he really just wanted a hug. Yeah...you know, I do know that this is fanfiction, and it's not only ok but even expected to play around with the canon, but seriously? And, even ignoring the fact that he looks like a SLUG(really charming, that) and has the personality of a sociopath with severe dementia and a toothache, there is still one major hurdle that EVERYONE ignores. Harry was born July 31, 1980. Tom Riddle was born December 31, 1926. This means that, when Harry starts to reach the point that that sort of thing is INTERESTING...Riddle is around 68 years old! Let me put that in perspective for you... Tom Riddle is old enough that he could, concievably, be Harrys GREAT Grandfather! Riddle and Harry has literally NOTHING that can be called 'common ground'. Riddle was born right at the start of the Depression, and was a teen as the Second World War kicked off. How sexually and/or emotionally attractive do you find people that are of that particular generation? Yeah, pretty much not at all, right? Why would Harry be any different? Sheeesh. Beyond the above, I have another couple of pet peeves, names being the greatest one. Seriously, people...I know some of them are different...even very different, at times...but it isn't as if they're written by a Russian phonetically translating Hebrew into Japanese! Greatest and most common error:Ginerva. It's Ginevra. V before R. If you don't misspell McGonagall as Minevra, you have no excuse. And under NO circumstances is it Virginia or anything similar. For those that make THAT...creation, I have to ask, have you READ the books? Yes, yes, I know, AU, Fanfiction, artistic license...but, why would you then name her Ginny at all? Second, a surefire way to tell someone who's only ever watched the movies and not read the books:Creature, or variations thereof. I would think that if you're writing something (ultimately) based on a series of books, you'd want to READ said books, but what do I know? Anyways, it's Kreacher. Nothing else. The number of misspellings of the government of magical Britain are legion. I know that I have seen, personally, at least a dozen, in all sorts of combinations of mistakes. Its called the 'wizengamot', kids. Make a note. And, while it isn't a misspelling, per se, Harry's name is just that...Harry. It isn't Hadrian or Harrison or Harkin or any other such. Harry. That's all. Again, as with Ginny...you're of course free to name your character whatever, it's fanfiction. But, also again, why would you then invent a name for him that is merely a contrived way of making him 'Harry' all the same? Name him Pete or whatever. Oh, and, not that it much matters, but...at his death, Albus Dumbledore was aged 115. Not 150, or 167 or another fanciful number, quite a few of which are taken clear out of the blue. |
