A 'What if Hiccup left' fic. In the arena with the Monstrous Nightmare, instead of telling Toothless to leave, Hiccup jumped into the saddle and flew him away, not to return for five years. When he finally does come back, we see a changed Hiccup, with new and diverse friends and allies, all of whom have accepted his new ways of training, rather than killing, dragons.

Dragon Training has been postponed until Stoick's return from Helheim's Gate. During his father's month-long voyage, Hiccup forges a friendship with a creature he was raised to despise. Now, he must convince the other trainees that dragons aren't by their nature ferocious, and that there's a much larger problem that can only be stopped with cooperation between mortal enemies.

Instead of killing the dragon in the arena, Hiccup decides to fly away from Berk on Toothless.He finds a small island,and lives there,bartering with the people who live on a nearby island. Five years later,Stoick finds his son again. Chaos, of course, ensues.

When Stoick never leaves for the Nest, and when Hiccup's torment had gone so far that eventually: he snaps, and left Berk with Toothless. This adventure marks the duo as they fight against the world themselves, and to test the true nature of heroism in the time of greatest needs. Choices are to be made. Sides are to be chosen. Being the son of the chief takes brains, courage, and a lot of patience. But at his father's the request for marriage, Hiccup decides he has had enough. When he seeks out a life of ease, he runs into more than what he bargained for.

A common jump off point where Toothless meets Astrid for the first time. This time, Astrid picks up her axe as she runs away. Is it worth the risk to chase an armed and dangerous girl?

Set immediately after the events of Reconciliation, this tale concludes my three-part variation on the original How to Train Your Dragon plot. Please read The Traitor and then Reconciliation before viewing this story, otherwise nothing will make sense. People often wondered what kept Hiccup going during those early years. When that single, most-treasured thing is taken from him, there is little left to keep him on Berk. The day Stoick returns, and the day before the best recruit is finally chosen, Hiccup leaves Berk; little knowing that he would one day return under ... strange circumstances. Spoilers! As per tradition, the young vikings set out on their first overnight hunting mission. When Stoick makes them leave their dragons at home, can they make it through the trip in one piece or will it be up to the dragons to rescue their vikings?
