Ever heard of Sturgeon's Law? It's the reason I first started to read fanfic. It's a humorous constant created by Henry Sturgeon, a prolific science fiction writer that states; "90% of all science fiction is crud."

"There is also a (possibly apocryphal) story that tells of Sturgeon making the above comment during a panel discussion at a science fiction convention. When the audience protested, Sturgeon reportedly blinked and replied, "90% of everything is crud."

Logically, this is applicable to fanfiction as well, and after careful experimentation and testing, I can happily tell you that it is absolutely incorrect.

A 90% crap ratio is wrong, a 99% percent crap ratio would be more accurate. But still the gems of fanfiction exist, in wading through the torrents of horrid language, absent description, and flat out embarrassing characters, I've found some truly excellent literary works. To save you, dear random stranger, some time, I've Favorited all the works I've found so far that I feel are great examples of storytelling. Of course I'm subject to personal bias, so this list is by no means perfect, and I can't read every fic on the site, though I believe I might be coming close soon. In any case, if you're looking for a good read I implore you to try my favorites.
