![]() Author has written 4 stories for Harry Potter, Breakout Kings, Lie to Me, and Glee. Welcome! I have challenged myself to write everyday this summer! This is where I will post everything. I will have an update everyday, no matter how small. Please don't expect a lot from me. Also, any negative reviews will be ignored, because I am writing this for me. That does not mean that I don't want your opinion. Also, I know the difference between criticism and rudeness. I am only posting it because the good reviews will be like little rewards. So, I will post my first fanfic on June 8th! Warning: There will be homosexual relationships but nothing graphic (yet). Petition: Ever since it was opened, Fanfiction.NET had always been a place for avid fans-- of ANYTHING-- to feel at home. To express whatever is on our minds and truly let our love for characters, plotlines and scenarios shine through. Now all of a sudden, FF.net has decided to go through a massive upheaval and remove thousands of stories from its library, some of the best fanfics ever written, gone, never to be read again. They are removing anything involving sexual situations, or violence, or inspired by a song, the list goes on. And we as readers see this as a gross waste of talent and incredible material. Fanfiction.net has always been a place for us writers to 'Unleash our imagination' as the tagline states, and now we are having that right to freedom of speech and expression taken away from us. Since when are they allowed to dictate what goes into our stories? They are OUR pieces of work. What if the violence or sexual content is part of the plotline? This whole situation is absurd. There are better ways to deal with 'inappropriate' content than to remove it altogether. What about adult filters? Age restrictions? There are so many other options!! I signed the petition, will you? This is a reason one person signed the petition. It says it all for me: I have been an avid (bordering on obsessive) fan fiction reader since 2009. On average, I am on fanfiction.net for 4-5 hours a day (usually late into the evening). While some may find my obsession strange, bordering on compulsive, I simply see it as a safe escape from the stress involved with raising my family of four. Fan fiction has given me a place to share my love for reading and writing in a safe and nonjudgmental environment. For this I am grateful. Unfortunately, the energy in the fandom has turned incredibly caustic in the past few weeks. I have fielded HUNDREDS of e-mail requests to boycott fanfiction.net and read some rather venomous comments about a group of 13 year old girls (even going so far as to compare them to Nazi's...really?) Anyway, I am simply an aspiring writer and I wish I had the courage of the authors I read to bear their souls in the beautiful stories that exist on fanfiction.net. I have laughed out loud, cried big tears and read LATE, LATE into the evening simply not able to put down many of the captivating stories. Almost 100% of the stories I have read include sexually explicit scenes that are in no way gratuitous, but offer a natural progression of the love story the author has weaved. As a 40 plus year old woman, I am completely comfortable with this content. I would, however, not like my 13 year old child reading the same material. So I am making a formal plea to the owners of fanfiction.net to consider integrating an age verification component to the web site or a sister-site for MA stories. The uprising that has begun and the underground movement to leave fanfiction.net makes me immensely sad, but now that I have witnessed stories being deleted without author notification and with no way for them to retrieve the reviews that they received while they wrote their stories... I too must consider packing my bags and moving on. (Maura Varley-Twyman) Possible Fandoms: Avengers Possible Crossovers: Avengers/Harry Potter Beta Readers: I have yet to decide if I will want a beta reader. I know that if I did have one, it would not go through the beta first. It would be more along the lines of at the end of the week, and then I would update with the beta-ed version. I would like all of your opinions on the matter of a beta. I don't think I will need one, but if any readers thing I do I will consider obtaining one. |
