Tyrion notices Jaime giving special attention to somebody, and it pikes his curiosity. Some spoilers for season eight are in this fic.

When Central Command comes under attack by an unknown rebel group, Riza Hawkeye becomes gravely injured with only Edward Elric as witness. "Something exploded in a place they couldn't see and the screams intensified. She held his gaze for a long moment, asking him to heed her, asking herself to protect him, then turned on her heel and bolted towards the sounds of chaos."

Reeling in the months after Ishval, Riza can't take the pace of her mind and intoxicates herself. The following day, when she's to report to duty at work – and to Roy Mustang – she recognizes that it was a severe mistake. WARNING: blood, language, brief mentions of suicidal thoughts.

Told through a series of time-woven scenes, Riza and Roy must fight with, and for, each other in order to take down a corrupted military official. But it is during this dangerous mission that Roy comes to a terrible, heavy, inconvenient and grave realization about his subordinate; he is in love with her.

During their first night in the hospital, Roy and Riza attempt to adjust to his blinded condition.

"With her spine tall, her chin parallel with the ground, eyes lied straight ahead looking at nothing, she stood alone. She felt her feet sway, perceptive to only herself, and her body turned to lead. Strange, how silent a courtroom stocked with strangers could be. Even the air was stunned to silence."

Roy experiences a pang of jealousy at the innocent gaze of another man towards Riza Hawkeye. One of the lighter pieces I've done ;)

"Like a flawed projector spitting out images, acid-like, savage and unfair, she sees this, she sees them, and she wonders if it is them, not a mirage but a ghost, a militia of the claimed, calling for her, crying for her, tears fall down their dead faces or maybe it's only the ash of once-flesh sifting down them..." Dying yourself reminds you of the death you've caused. One-shot.

Roy is often impulsive, uninhibited, and harsh. When angered, it's exemplified. Riza is often stubborn, hard, and powerful. When fought with, it's exemplified. Or, what it could be like if the two characters who never fight, did.

"It didn't just come to him, you know. Research like that takes years. Years." Roy asks Riza a question he detests hearing the answer to.

A couple interconnected drabbles that range from Riza's perceptions of herself, to Roy's perceptions of her, and finally migrating into a long mission where Riza falls ill. Done just as a writing exercise, not supposed to be narrative. Half character study, half sick fic. COMPLETE
