I mostly write fan fiction about videogames that I've played. I've been playing mainly RPG style games since the early 1980's, games such as Baldur's Gate, Alternate Reality: The City, and the Ultima series. More recently I've been playing the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series of games, and I write some fanfics based on those worlds as well. I find RPG games to be immersive and enjoyable, and a great springboard for my own imagination. I try to keep my stories lore-friendly within a single franchise, without crossovers or alternate universes. My stories are mostly about the little-known characters, items and places mentioned in a franchise, and seldom take on the POV, or even mention, a lead character or the player character in a videogame. I do often expand on existing canon, giving my own interpretation of back-stories for codified characters, items or places, but I try not to contradict lore, only filling in gaps with my own opinion of what might have been. I also try to write in-character, avoiding game mechanics wherever possible. However, none of my writing is intended to supplement or supplant existing lore. I am not big-headed enough to think that I am a good enough writer to amend or correct the lore of a franchise, nor to be considered equal to the task of writing tales that could potentially be included in the canonical corpus. I offer my writings here purely for entertainment value, and mainly for my own enjoyment. I do hope others get something out of them as well. |
