I've led what the Chinese would call an interesting life. One would hope that things would become a little less interesting as time goes on, but so far, nope. I've been writing for years for my own amusement but was reluctant to post anything as I may or may not have *cough* Issues. Issues with a capital I. Several anon postings which did not get the villagers out with pitchforks and torches to drive me from the depths of Livejournal for the crime of being a Bad Writer gave me the courage to start posting as myself. Well, after a few more anons just in case those were flukes. I love fan writers, they are the equivelant of the sandlot baseball players, who play for the sheer love of the game. I love fanfiction, it lets us ask a million what if questions - and get answers. It lets us go places the original writers won't or sometimes can't go, not if they want to keep their books on the shelves and shows on the air. And it allows some truly amazing writers (of which I will never claim to be one) gain an audience for their work. I currently reside smack dab in the middle of the US, having been blown here by the force of Katrina from our home in southern Louisiana. I've got a loving and supportive husband, an old house that is apparently trying to self destruct, one piece at a time, a car that has just come out from under warranty but somehow has yet to spontaneously combust, and various and sundry relatives, some of which I actually lay claim to. I'm a little odd in that I'll read in almost any fandom, even if I know nothing at all about the original work. If it has a hook that appeals, I'll give it a go. I got sucked into Fandom by Supernatural, and branched out exponentially from there. I find myself most often reading Sentinal, Merlin, Star Trek reboot, Sherlock, bandom, House, Harry Potter, among many others. Fandoms I really, really wish were more active are Wiseguy and MASH. I love slash. Love, love, love it. Why? That's really simple. Sexy times boy = hot. Two (or more) sexy times boys = hot to the tenth power. Plus there's not nearly enough published fiction out there with gay characters. Fanfiction fills that gap, well, to a certain extent. I'm hoping one day to walk into a wal-mart and find "The Sheik's Pleasure Boy" right next to the Harlequins. I never leave negative reviews. Mama always told me if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. Seriously, what's the point? Just because you don't like something doesn't mean someone else won't. Everyone has a different writing level and style, and unless they specifically invite constructive criticism, (because no one asks for flames) I say don't. Reading that story cost you nothing but a few minutes of your time, so why not live and let live. I do try to leave positive reviews, though I was too shy at first to even do that. I'm truly horrible with technology. I do make an effort to make things look nice and readable but anything more advanced that the most basic levels, say what your average third grader could do, is probably going to be beyond me. So this is me apologizing in advance for horrible spacing errors and so forth. I'm also dyslexic and a terrible speller. I do proof read, and proof read again, but some things slip through. Insert preemptive apology here. You can find me at Livejournal under the same user name as here. Be warned, however, a LOT of the stuff posted there shouldn't be read by anyone under the age of 35. Maybe not then. Because I have no shame and very few squicks. Positive reviews make my husband very happy. He gets all the benefits of me walking around with a Gomer Pile level goofy grin for the day. Extra backrubs, favorite dinners, unmentionable acts, all are mysteriously more likely to appear on those days. So if you care about my poor long-suffering husbands happiness, nice reviews are encouraged and appreciated. |
