![]() Author has written 3 stories for Harry Potter. Welcome to my profile! I've decided to change this a bit. If you've seen my profile before and remember what it looked like... well... this is a bit different. I think of fan fiction as a means of elaborating on the "what ifs" of canon works. "What if this person could do this thing at this moment to change this outcome to this new one?" See what I mean. It's a highly intriguing means of exploring the world us fans have come to enjoy so much. But, like many things, fan fiction is not perfect. I fail to see anyone capture the true essence of a character (this is focused on Harry Potter fan fiction. I've read very nice InuYasha fan fiction capture the characters.), and because of this, certain attempts are very... bad. I like to think of characters as molds that can be shaped and hardened through new experiences and trials. It is what character building is, giving reason for the character's traits and foibles. Truly great fan fiction is not made by keeping all of the characters in character, but making new experiences and disguising the imperfect representation of canon character long enough to change the circumstances and thereby change the characters. Of course, some restrictions apply. But, I'm rambling now, so I'm going to stop. I'll talk about my story. Dance of the Thestral was an idea I had after reading a time travel fic (which got me hooked on the genre, good ones bring incredible experiences), and I wanted to do something original and interesting. But I've also wanted to pace myself and leave room for creativity. I've not mapped out the entire plot yet, and, it may have been a mistake to have done so, but it was a risk I was willing to take. And, now I have a story that will grow. It can and will grow, actually. I just have to decide what I'm going to feed it from time to time. It will need plot (sunshine), characters (water), twists (fertilizer), and creativity (soil). Those are arbitrary by the way. My other stories are on hiatus, unfortunately. I was hoping to do something great with Rectitude, but things just snowballed out of my control, plot-wise and life-wise. Recrudescence was a little side project, and since the prologue and first chapter (a chapter I have not published and currently don't have access to anymore) I have not spent anymore time on it. But, such is life. I hope you all enjoy my stories and I hope to read some great ones as well. |
