Thump Thump Blonk

"Oh, come on," groaned a woman as she scowled at the blackening bruise on her knee. "Seriously?!"

The frustrated voice resonated through a blank, square room. More groans of frustration and exasperation ricocheted off the walls as the lone woman vied to perfect the move, only to either mess up a step or miss a beat. In any case, the one thing she definitely did manage to do was lose the rhythm of the music that pounded in the background. The woman was intimately familiar with the absolutely huge gap between theory and practical when it came to dance; even so, her rival was able to manage, and she achieved much more, too. The woman wasn't about to give up after screwing up once or twice.

However, when a familiar snicker came from behind the white door (which the girl in the room didn't hear opening as she was enthralled by the beat), her blood instantaneously started to boil under her skin. She would not take any of her mockery. So what if she wasn't a genius? So what if she wasn't a prodigy? So what if all she had to her name was hard work and graft? None of those labels mattered. They said hard workers owned the world anyway, and she would be the one to show it to the woman who had just entered the studio.

"How pitiful!" she exclaimed as she sauntered into the room, sending the quietly seething girl a mawkish grin through the mirror. "You aren't even able to do such a simple move. Do I really have to show you how it goes?" The newcomer stepped up to the wooden dance floor as soon as the words left her mouth and immediately burst into an elegant dance, taking ownership of the whole space as if it was the only place she had ever practised in. She commanded it, swirling and twirling around the other girl in a shameless show of talent.

Oddly enough, watching such a blatant, prideful spectacle enthralled the other woman and, soon, she too started dancing, the two of them chained to the music as they fought to the end of eternity.
