Sherlock is back after playing dead for 2 years. People have moved on or at least have tried to, but the imprints he left are more permanent then they would think. Molly Hooper is a perfect example. Captain John Watson is a soldier in Afghanistan. Sherlock Holmes has just been admitted to a drug rehab facility, assigned to write a letter to an unknown soldier. He doesn't expect to get a letter back from someone as interesting as John. John doesn't expect to get letter from a recovering drug addict. Together they form an unlikely friendship through letters. After S3. Lestrade wants to celebrate Sherlock's quick return from exile by taking him & others to a pub. Sherlock is less than thrilled. Things get interesting when Lestrade convinces Anderson to relate his original theory about how the detective faked his death years before. Molly and Sherlock go undercover as a married couple, to bring down Set Carter, a leading drugs lord with a secret society that could be the key to his downfall. The pair, along with John and Mary, are tested physically, morally and emotionally. Will they all realise what it means to be the people they are with the careers they have? Will romance blossom?

It wasn't as though he was trying to memorize her cardigans. It was just that because of his eidetic memory he couldn't help but remember them all. It wasn't that it mattered what Amy wore, anyway. He only liked her on an intellectual level, for her mind. It wasn't as though he loved her cardigans, just as he did not love Amy. CANON

Sherlock comes back from a case acting strange. He deteriorates until he does the unthinkable. After having a breakdown, he no longer remembers John or most of his current life. John visits Sherlock in the asylum often, hoping that he will be able to rescue his friend from the memories and abuse that triggered his breakdown, and hoping to gain his friend back.

She was becoming quite proficient in mimicking him. She had noticed how she had begun to crave his aloofness, his coldness, his distancing. It was much preferable to the pain that had slowly been killing her inside.
