Author has written 4 stories for Angel, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, and Firefly. Hello everyone. I used to want to be a writer but now I'm carving out another career almost by accident so I want to do that instead now. However, I do like writing, so I aim to finish the projects here I've been working on for far too long, if for no other reason for closure. As a result of not writing fiction for a couple of years I'm finding it difficult to sit down and hammer out content of a significant length. Gone are the days when I could write several thousand words in a single session. I might get back there one day but who knows? In any case, the roundabout point is that it's probably going to take me even longer to accomplish anything (and it used to take me quite a while!). But where's there's a will, there's a way. I also love feedback. Positive, negative, indifferent - as long as it's somewhat constructive, I'll take it. Okay, I’m done now. Onto the stories. Scourge My first (and incomplete) fic. This was really to test the waters and see what my level of ability was. It slots between the first mini-arc of Cordelia returning and the Beast arriving in season four of Angel. It's about a clan of super-demons that surface in LA because of the mystical energy the Beast is putting out in preparation of its arrival. I think it’s a nice enough story, and I might finish it one day. The End Begins Something I try and avoid reading, but I keep it up here because I'd feel like it was self-censorship taking it down. Too many characters, not enough planning...I eventually just ran out of steam with it and never continued. A Buffy/Angel crossover AU. Final Trinity Not on my profile - it's here over on Tyramir’s profile. A giant Final Fantasy crossover of every game, but not Advent Children or Dirge of Cerberus. As always, Sephiroth gets resurrected, but we're drawing from lots of different sources and I've had fun coming up with all kinds of strange and wonderful plot devices. I write the half involving Squall and his motley crew. It's fun because Final Fantasy lends itself to outside-the-box thinking, so if I want something a bit bizarre to happen then it's usually safe to go there, rather than worry about the confines of reality. Basically, this is on indefinite hold. Me and Tyramir both want to finish this, and I've got a few chapters written that haven't been published yet, but for various reasons it's just not happening at the moment. Sorry! We fully intend to complete this some day, so stay tuned. Void (complete) I started this as a one shot because I didn't want to write any more on Final Trinity (as it would increase the gap between Tyramir and me) but I strongly felt the urge to just write something. It started as a discussion the characters have about what they're going to do after the Serenity movie, but then I had a really strange idea as I finished it off. I wonder how an Alien on Firefly would turn out? And thus, I just had to finish it from there. I didn't warn anyone about what was going to happen beforehand, to preserve the plot twist - I mean, who was going to see that one coming? - but also because I wanted to emphasise that Void is a Firefly story with an Alien in it. I wanted to make it clear that this was the deal people were getting - for those Firefly readers who didn't know the first thing about Alien, it wasn't necessary for them to know, because the Alien is just a plot device in a Firefly story. But for the Alien buffs, there are a few nods and in-jokes I tried to plant. The end is not a happy one. Nightmare (complete) Gosh, what to say? The longest story ever, at least in terms of time to complete. But it's done now! Nightmare is something I'm really proud of, as it is a hefty length but also that I got a lot of positive reception for it on the community here. Void was really just an exercise in meandering fun, but Nightmare is where I knuckled down and hammered out a very long overarching plotline and even managed to get some original characters in the mix, I hope, without them being a detraction to the overall quality of the story. It took me an incredible four years to complete, mostly due to the fact that I was around 99% complete when my hard drive decided to foul up and I lost the last few chapters. I lost heart and confidence, because no matter what I did, the rewrites never felt as good as my memory of what they were, and so it just kept getting bumped along until I finally decided to finish what I started. Snake's Head (in progress) Not here yet. Check back soon. (NB: "Soon" may be as long as "eternity," but I've started it at least.) I always wanted this to be an optimistic end to what was invariably a somewhat depressing story through Void and Nightmare, but now I've come to writing it I find that I prefer the darker elements to anything else. I've found that I've grown up, or at least changed, a lot in terms of my writing style. I used to favour aiming for epic action sequences and got bogged down by introspective moments, but now I find that the reverse is true. I also find that a lot of what I had planned for this story no longer appeals to me - probably because I first started thinking about it around three years ago, and a lot has happened in the mean time to change my outlook and preferences. Given that it's the third in a trilogy, obviously some of the planned things have to stay out of necessity. But I'm enjoying the process of internally rewriting what I had planned to some extent and returning to the characters, particularly my original ones, as although Mal and the team have a special place in my heart, ultimately they're borrowed property. |
