Secondary Characters: Count Dooku, Padmé Naberrie Amidala. Other (Significant) Supporting Characters: Mace Windu, Master Yoda, Chancellor Palpatine. Pairings: Anakin Skywalker/Padmé Naberrie Amidala (in later chapters) Era: Prequel TrilogyInvictus falls into the category of 'what if', is set in the prequel timeline and is quite simply an exploration of events had Qui-Gon not died at Maul's hand. One quality Qui-Gon Jinn possessed was a natural compassion for all living, individual things - something that was admittedly rare within the ranks of the Jedi, who were more concerned for the overall good. If Anakin had been trained by Qui-Gon, things may have turned out very differently. Qui-Gon would have understood that Anakin had grown up with love - that of his mother - and could not simply cast attachment from his life. Qui-Gon would have empathised with Anakin when he was feeling homesick, when he was feeling proud. He would have been mindful of a young ex-slave's uncertainty. He would have been stern, but compassionate. Obi-Wan, having displayed little or none of that same compassion during The Phantom Menace could hardly understand Anakin. However, Darth Vader did not rise because of one death, one mistake, one young Knight-Master. In the end, it was Anakin's choice... But what kind of choice was it? There was no benevolent love - Obi-Wan cared, of course, Padmé loved him, of course, but Obi-Wan was not there from the beginning, Padmé and Anakin's love forbidden. The only person who may have understood was dead, and to Anakin-the-child-and-the-slave-and-the-frightened-young-man, death was final. So... it was a choice between a cruel evil and an empty life. A selfish one, but the options were bleak. Invictus follows what may have happened - the Dark does not relinquish its hold on the Chosen One because one who would have died, lived. In this story, Anakin continues his struggle, and it remains to be seen whether he can resist temptation, or Darth Vader rises regardless. Title: Ad Astra Primary Characters: Luke and Leia Skywalker, Darth Vader. Secondary Characters: Bail Organa, Naberrie family, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Other (Significant) Supporting Characters: Emperor Palpatine, Master Yoda. Pairings: Leia Skywalker/Han Solo, Luke Skywalker/OC, Anakin Skywalker/Padmé Naberrie Amidala Era: Post-Prequel Trilogy/Pre-Classic Trilogy, Classic Trilogy. Ad Astra, much like Invictus, falls into the 'what if' category. Its prologue is set just after Revenge of the Sith, and the first little bit of italicised script is lifted directly from Matthew Stover's novelization. Ad Astra addresses a question its authors wanted an answer to – why had Luke been sent to Tatooine and not Naboo? Why had Owen Lars been the first choice for a surrogate parent rather than Sola Naberrie? |
