![]() Author has written 1 story for RWBY. I am not good at writing about pages on any site so bare with me. You'd be surprised how hard it is to talk about yourself. As far as writing experience goes I have been writing my own original story for about 4 years now off and on and am almost done with. I have done some writing with a few upstart tech blogs and a tech/nerd-culture-centric podcast website. Writing has always been a direct way for me to get my feelings out. I tended to use fiction writing to mask what is essentially a biography or maybe a mental struggle I was undergoing with an issue or two, as well as to highlight the overcoming of it. I have done art in the past as well, from sketching, calligraphy, to painting in acrylics and watercolors. I did some sculpting. chalk and pastel art and later in my life digital art and graphics design. In other words I love to be creative. Story just flow, I can't hold them back sometimes, I have already thought of all the details of how a certain scene plays out and I have to turn this ambiguous scene into a whole story. It's been fairly recently however, that I started reading fanfiction. There are many things that I get hyped about. After all, I am a humongous nerd for comics, movies, manga, anime, video games, and tech. However, it wasn't until I ran into RWBY that along with that enthusiasm came a sense of community. I love Android (OS), Metroid (game) but none of those things came with a community that felt as inviting, warm and alive as RWBY. It's the first thing that has ever prompted me to make content to compliment or praise it's existing creations. It could also be attributed to the fact that there is very little content release each week, nay, each year for RWBY, but that just gives us even more drive to grapple onto whatever... semblance... of it we can, hence the many fanfictions that have been made. Before running into RWBY I actually hated the idea of fanfiction and all of it's accompanying stereotypes. Safe to say, the very idea repulse me. To read, nevertheless write one was the farthest thing from my mind but here I am writing one as we speak. Many of you who are reading this probably hear from r/rwby, most likely where I will be promoting my first fic and the one I will probably spend the most time on keeping updated over time, Pure Dust, Dirty Snow. Others may have just stumbled upon this. If you know me from Reddit, which I will take this opportunity to shamelessly plug myself (/u/velkro16) you probably also know that I have a taste for slightly... grimmer... aspects of RWBY. My fics will represent an idealized version of the show to me, so if that tells you anything it may be a plus or minus to you based on your tastes. It is what it is. I also plan on using Tumblr as a way to preview my chapters before they come out. I update people about my Tumblr Preview and full, complete chapters on Twitter. I also like getting in discussions on the RWBY G community because of how active it is, so if you have Google join in the fun. Lastly, writing has always been a method of catharsis for me. It's pretty personal. I wear my heart on my sleeve with writing for better or for worse (hopefully for the better), nevertheless I want to look back at my stories and be proud of it as stand alone works. Every character that I write shares a little bit of myself. The self I am, the one I could have become, the one I am proud of, the one I am ashamed of. I really hope that something about my writing speaks to you in ways that mere everyday words cannot. |
