Ever since Sam can remember, and even a little before then, Dean has been carrying him through difficult times. Though his brother has always been strong enough to carry him, Sam is worried that his strength will fail when it's time for him to return the favor.

Set shortly after Dean gets out of Hell. He is plagued by nightmares and flashbacks, and resorts to self-harm. Trigger Warning for self harm and PTSD and suicidal thoughts. (UPDATE: changed the rating to M for smut in future chapters.)

What if Jo had hesitated? What if she was too late getting to Dean and stopping the hellhound? This story explores the plot that would have been had Jo Harvelle had a slower reaction time. 5x10 Abandon All Hope alternate storyline.

If Dean hadn't of been holding her up, keeping her moving, Jo would have stayed to watch that building burn, hoping beyond a child's hopeless prayer that her mother would walk out of there, that she would return to her, anything, just as long as she was alive. That didn't happen. And the colt didn't work.

Jo was a little skeptical of the consequences she would suffer when a mysterious woman helped prevent her death, but why is almost everyone, even Dean, so resentful towards her now?
