Hello there, I'm Ariadna Subirachs. I know not everyone's so straightforward with their real names on the net these days but I just thought, " Hey, it's not like everybody is a creep online " (and it's not like these shady people would actually go through the trouble of finding their way to our doorstep, more importantly ) and decided to put it up here in plain sight. Besides, maybe it'll push me to write better since I'll be disgracing the family name if I go purple all over the place. By the way, I just turned seventeen last February, so please go easy on me if you can. ^_^ Of course, critiques, reminders on maintaining continuity ( something I'm having a rather hard time keeping track of...unless I go out of my way to flunk sixth form and banish any thought of getting through my A-level exams...) , grammar-picking, and ( if I'm lucky ) a wayward line of sincere appreciation from time to time would be most welcome. bows and sighs* *clears throat* All right, now that the tedious stuff is out of the way...I'll finally get to say some things about myself. Hopefully you won't snore through it...but if you do, I'm glad I helped you take a chunk off some of that sleep deficit we all have nowadays. First and foremost, I love reading and writing stories since I was little (sound a bit cliche but there you have it ). Having a surgeon dad and a reception teacher (and a journalist on the side, should probably mention that ) for a mum might have something to do with it. And quite possibly having a paternal grandmother who wrote couplets for gift cards as well. Whether or not I have half of what they have is entirely up to you who take the time to read whatever comes out of the restless and often sleep-challenged heads of people like me ( I'm quite certain that I'm halfway to being a full fledged insomniac...or was it a third of theway...? ). Here's to hoping I'll be able to make you see another time, another place. And make myself famous. Maybe. Maybe some of you are wondering, " Why fanfiction? " It doesn't exactly catch the eye of the out-and-about literary lot, doesn't it? One of my aunts even sees it as a waste of time OR talent. We should be trodding towards something original or we shouldn't trod at all, as they say. But why shouldn't fanfiction BE original? After all, not every writer can profess total love for what they put down on the page, and I daresay most of us can. Most of us do, in point of fact. We fell in love with certain stories, certain people...and we can't help but hang on to the thread that connects them to us. We aren't big fans of farewells, of endings, of vague denouements. "Happily ever after" is only a borrowed phrase, but one that has true implications for those, like us, who have followed imaginary journeys to the last word and asked themselves " why shouldn't it go on? " One could hardly say it was wasted effort. Or quite possibly, a lot of us here merely want to tell stories. To make someone laugh, cry, at times question, or pause before turning in, or go hopping mad at some divergence in canon. Either way, it's worth the fuzzy eyes and the numb fingers to dig through and find out for yourself what you think happened before your favourite character's beginning, and what happens after "the end." Right now I'm starting with a series based off of Orphan, which was a very special story in that it was not perfect, it had its faltering moments and rough patches...but still does more than enough to be utterly memorable. That the violent and ultimately tragic tale of Esther had to end with a broken neck and a watery grave is somehow unreal would be an understatement. She was a captivating invention, even in the premise of the film itself, and deserves a thorough backstory. Hopefully I connected the hints that Alex Mace and David Leslie Johnson dropped throughout the feature film into more or less a coherent ( if not wholly sensible...which never worked for me since year four anyway ) patchwork. Beta readers, ideas( I definitely don't believe in "More's the ruin."), flames and comments would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently working on the prequel as I type this, and also an addendum called Tales of Esther, capped off by Esther's End, in which you'll find out if her quest for the perfect family is really hopeless or not. I know some of you think you can see a fair amount of what I have under my sleeves(!) a long time coming, but I'm still confident that I'll manage to squeeze in some surprises and not a few atypical chapters. Obviously a lot of excellent fanfics have been written to tell where Leena came from and how she got to the orphanage, but I'll do my best (go! go! Manchester City! ) to make my take on her past fairly unique. You can e-mail me anytime if you feel like it--do drop by a word or two at least. Writing and connecting to people through it is in many ways a lifeline for me, what with the A-levels not to far off. See ya! |
