Current Obsession

Ouran High School Host Club! I was recently at an anime convention (my first convention ever) and I realized I didn't recognize a ton of the costumes and artwork there. In an attempt to diversify my anime/game interests, I asked for recommendations from some friends, and Ouran was brought up. I figured, hey, the series is only twenty-something episodes long and everyone says it's good, so why not? And I'm so glad I did. Ouran HSHC is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen, and I love how they manage to put so much emotion and plot/character development into so few episodes.

I dream of becoming a writer someday, but I'm not sure how good my work really is. So please, please review my works politely so I can improve my writing. You'll be helping me work on my career. I'm in college, so I have homework and stuff. I do have free time, but during the school year it's limited.

Me As A Fanfiction Reader And Author

Fanfiction, to me, has meant different things over the years. Sometimes I think of it as a way to get my fix for whatever fandom currently isn't airing (since most of my fandoms now are TV shows). I get kind-of obsessive with the shows I like, and in those long off-season months, fanfiction helps keep me entertained. I also think of fanfiction as a way to "fix" or improve things I didn't like on the real show. It's a chance to tell the world the way I think the story should go. Sometimes writers are so great, and they create amazing characters, but they don't see the potential their characters have. Sometimes writers invent incredible plots and story-lines, but their execution of those plots and story-lines isn't as good as I think it could be.

Right after this section, I've listed the couples I support for the different fandoms I read/participate in. If you like these pairings too, check out my favorites list. I only favorite stories that are one or more of the following: very well-written, thought-provoking, made me smile, made me cry, or made me laugh. Some aren't that well-written, but they're great stories or just nice ones that made me happy. Sometimes I just need to find a fic that will cheer me up. I am currently working on narrowing that list down to only the really great fics though, but it's a long and grueling process. On a further note, I have recently updated this list to only include the fandoms I am still at least somewhat active in.

As far as romance goes, I'm very particular. For some reason I have yet to put my finger on, I mostly don't prefer fics with kids as a general rule, but I will read some. It really depends on the couple, the timeline of the story and the way the whole "having a kid" thing is written. In all fandoms, I like romance stories that show actual love. Romance is not just about physical attraction or sexual behavior. It's about love, and people caring for one another, whether they be two men, two women, or a man and a woman. Love is love, no matter what form it comes in. I completely respect and accept homosexuality and bisexuality, even though I personally am heterosexual. I cannot tolerate ignorant, closed-minded people. If your beliefs (religious or otherwise) do not accept homosexuals or bisexuals, I respect that. Just don't start bashing them. Have your own beliefs, but please don't insult other people who think differently.

This being said, I usually don't like or read slash stories. This is NOT because I don't approve of same-sex relationships. (Because I do.) It's mostly because slash stories are usually not canon. I don't like this because I've come to realize that the best stories are the ones where the characters are captured perfectly by the authors. If the creators of the fandom have portrayed a character in a way that has never shown any hint of being homosexual or bisexual, or of having romantic feelings towards the other character in the fic, then it's not really believable that they would be together. (Unless the story is drastically AU, and the characters are different in personality. Then I guess it's okay.) Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, if a pairing is really OOC (slash or het) then it's probably not my cup of tea.

I usually only read pairings I support. I probably won't bother reading stories if they end as a pairing I don't like. No offense to the authors, however. I don't have anything against the authors who write those pairings. If a story includes any pairings I dislike but ends as a pairing I support, though, I'll read it. If a pairing I dislike is not the main focus of the story and a pairing I support is, I probably will read that kind of fic too.

--ContestShipping [Drew/May] I absolutely adore these two. I'm a huge fan of female protagonist/male rival 'ships, as you'll see with my other supported pairings, and these two are the epitome of perfection for that. I actually supported this 'ship before I even watched one single episode with either of them in it. (Yeah, don't ask; I don't know how either.) And now that I have seen them together, I love them even more. You can't deny the signs. When a character actually says "he's gotten feelings for you", you know it's true. I love that he pushes her to be the best she can be while so obviously hiding behind the classic young boy strategy of teasing the girl you like to hide that you like her.
--PenguinShipping [Kenny/Dawn] I liked Kenny from the moment he was introduced, and after watching the episode "Four Roads Diverged in a Pokémon Port!", I officially decided I support them. Kenny was adorable, challenging Ash to a battle so Dawn would travel with him. I love that while she had to go with Ash, she left him that note, promising they would see each other again--and there was still more to come for the two of them, and hope for them being together. I also love that they're childhood friends--this is like the anime version of TwinleafShipping for me.

Gameverse
--TwinleafShipping [4th Generation Sinnoh Female Player Character (Dawn)/Rival (Barry)] This was the very first 'ship I really ever had. My first-ever game was Diamond, and one day, as I was playing it, I realized how adorable these two would be together. And thus my love for Pokémon grew and evolved into what it is today; actual participation in 'ships and interest in fanfiction. As such, these two will always have a special place in my heart for getting me into the fandom. Besides, I love the idea of two childhood best friends growing up and falling in love.
--ConflictingShipping [3rd Generation Kanto Female Player Character (Leaf)/Rival (Blue/Green)] I love this pairing. While I love Barry and think he's completely adorable, Blue/Green is by far one of the hottest Rivals. I just love everything about them. The feeling of nostalgia that comes from the original Kanto plot-line makes me think of long, decade-spanning life stories, and they all begin one day in Pallet Town with a normal small-town girl and the boy who's been her neighbor since birth. I would like to stress that this pairing, however, is NOT to be confused with OldRivalShipping, which is between the manga characters Blue/Green and Green/Blue (stupid name confusion). I do NOT support OldRivalShipping at the moment, but I love this pairing.
--SoulSilverShipping [4th Generation Johto Female Player Character (Lyra)/Rival (Silver)] As SoulSilver was the second game I ever bought, this is also one of my favorite pairings. One of my favorite parts of Pokémon, whether it be the anime, the manga or the games, is the story. I am a writer, and I love the story that goes along with my pairings, especially this one. The idea that two strangers meet again and again during their journey to become independent and grow up and end up becoming sort-of friends is just wonderful to me. I think it's really romantic and I love how complex Silver is as a character: the son of the head of a disbanded crime syndicate, struggling to forget his past and grow strong on his own.

--Kaoru/Haruhi This is my favorite pairing on the show, mostly because Kaoru is my favorite character and I'm hopelessly in love with him, and the fact that I'm so similar to Haruhi in personality myself, so I almost live vicariously through her in this pairing. Now, don't get me wrong, I love both of the twins, but Kaoru is by far my favorite. Hikaru is different from Kaoru, and I like Kaoru better. I like that he's the softer one, more compassionate and gentle and polite. I love that he loves his brother and is willing to put Hikaru first, even when it means his own happiness pays the price. Kaoru is more independent and able to stand on his own, and you have to admit that you can't say the same for Hikaru. It breaks my heart how Kaoru is destined to perpetually get the short end of the stick because of his role as the younger son in Japanese culture. Kaoru to me just fits better with Haruhi than Hikaru does. (Don't get me started on Tamaki. The creepy daddy-complex thing he's got going on weirds me out, and I think it would be really awkward to date a guy who's practically a clone [personality-wise] of your father.) I wish Kaoru was real, because then I'd steal him and keep him for myself. ;D
