![]() Author has written 15 stories for Tactics, and Saiyuki. Most of the fics posted here are from Tactics. Those from 2009 are also archived elsewhere. The fics from 2009 are: "Train of Thought", "Languid", "Gaigokuko", "A Little Night Hubris", "Flirting with Dreamtime", "What You've Got", "What If He's Bonkers", "Overpowered I & II", and "Sid and Rico Meet a Tengu". These are also in their original archive at kantaro.atspace.com in the fiction section. As the author, I think: "What If He's Bonkers" is the best crafted (though possibly sacrilege to fans), "A Little Night Hubris" is the most accessible to people who aren't that familiar with Tactics, and "Sid and Rico Meet a Tengu" is the funniest (come on, don't skip this one. Muu kicks ass...) I suspect that "Train of Thought/Languid" or "Flirting with Dreamtime" will wind up the most popular out of this list because they show the most intimacy between Kantarou and Haruka. These three form a sort of loose story arc if you choose to read them that way. The other stories are more recent. As if January 2011, the most popular story seems to be "Little Green Voyeur", possibly because the word "Voyeur" makes people curious to open it. I do not like non-canonical romance in fics. However, since most of the readers here seem to demand yaoi, I feel forced to leave questions about non-canon romance open. In particular, when writing for Tactics, my version of the characters is 1) Kantarou's interest in Haruka is non-sexual (and usually parental or fraternal in nature) and 2) Haruka constantly misinterprets Kantarou's actions because of his experience with his first master, Fuji (a woman), with whom he did have a sexual relationship (manga canon). 3) Sugino sees through both of them and likes to push their buttons. Stories from Haruka's viewpoint thus may have some slash elements to sate the apparent fan-appetite for porn and implied porn, but those elements are all artifacts of how Fuji skewed Haruka's view of humans. Sometimes there isn't a concise translation for a Japanese word, so I use the Japanese one instead of a cumbersome English translation. This isn't some kind of hoity-toity affectation, just a recognition that 'youkai' is a lot less cumbersome than 'fairytale creatures', and 'winged goblin' is a pretty mis-representative translation of 'tengu'. I've been trying to include definitions of any Japanese words I used at the ends of stories, to help readers new to the series or new to anime and manga; I hope readers familiar with the material aren't annoyed by these. I think I really like the 'traffic' feature here. Most places you post fic, unless people comment, you have no idea if anyone ever even opened the file to look at it. I do have to wonder though, if these stats reflect how many people like the stories, or simply whether the summary sounds intriguing enough for people to click on the file. With that in mind I wouldn't mind getting a few reviews...critical ones help me write better; while the "great fic write more" reviews don't help improve craft, they can at least give me an idea what kinds/genres/tone of stories people like to read. If you write a review, please do not include external links or plug other sites or material, thank you.
