Come As You Are — a Naruto story

Misaki Hatake

•BACKGROUND:

Misaki was born on the night of July 2nd to Kakashi Hatake and Akira Chinoike. She was named after her maternal grandmother and is the goddaughter/“niece” of Guy. Only months later would the Nine Tails attack the village, with many losing their lives in the village’s destruction. The event caused a strain on Kakashi’s and Akira’s relationship, but they overcame it for Misaki’s sake.

Growing up, Misaki witnessed the social isolation and hatred Naruto received from the village. She heard rumors of Naruto being responsible for the Nine Tails’ attack, which confused her. Unlike her peers, however, Misaki didn't show any hostility towards Naruto.

On the day before her enrollment at the Ninja Academy — Misaki first met Naruto at Ichiraku’s Ramen. Despite not knowing her, he began explaining all the best ramen she could try. They became friends from that moment on.

•PERSONALITY:

Misaki is quiet but observant, possessing a keen sense of intuition. She’s also polite and kind, always caring for the well-being of others. From an early age, Misaki displayed a sense of independence and self-confidence, but not to the point where she’d come off as arrogant.

Being Kakashi’s daughter, there are moments where she might come off as apathetic or blunt, especially regarding sensitive topics, though she doesn’t mean to come off that way. She also displays some of Kakashi’s lazy tendencies.

Growing up, Misaki was taught the importance of teamwork from her father. She was taught to place the team’s well-being above the mission, which she took to heart. Misaki also shares Kakashi’s views that goals can be accomplished more effectively when working together as a team, asking for help, providing help when it’s requested of her, and praising allies when they deserve it.

•APPEARANCE:

Misaki has long, silver hair that reaches down the middle of her back, with long, parted bangs with a single lock of hair falling into her face. She has large, dark gray eyes with a beauty mark under her left eye. She’s slender with fair skin. Misaki holds some resemblance to her father.

Misaki also has the Ketsuryūgan, the Chinoike clan’s dojutsu.

Typically, Misaki wears a black high-collared sleeveless undershirt, a blue sleeveless kimono like shirt, long gray pants, black fingerless gloves that reach her upper arms, gray sandals, and a black belt.

•ABILITIES:

Misaki’s main focus is becoming strong. She trains extensively, often asking her father, Guy, and/or her mother to help her. One of Misaki’s goals is to improve her chakra control, which Kakashi and her mother help her with.

As a descendant of the Chinoike clan, Misaki possesses the Ketsuryūgan, a dojutsu that grants her the ability to cast powerful genjutsu, either by making physical contact with the target or meeting each other’s gaze; hypnotize the victim in a variety of ways, or even delve deep into their minds to extract information; and the manipulation of iron or any liquid with a high iron concentration. In other words, the Ketsuryūgan can manipulate the blood within a living target, whether it be themselves or another being.

With the training she’s received, Misaki can incorporate taijutsu when using her dojutsu and just by itself. While she hasn’t mastered all of taijutsu, she was able to pick up on it quickly.

While Misaki doesn’t doesn’t usually use standard ninjutsu, her nature transformation is Lightning Release. She has some knowledge when it comes to ninjutsu, but not enough to fully understand it.

•WEAKNESSES:

If all of Misaki’s chakra were removed at once, she’d die.

If Misaki overuses her chakra, she’ll be exhausted.

She can get injured and die just as easily as most shinobi in the Naruto universe.

•ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

While Kakashi and Akira are not officially married, they are partners and raise Misaki together.

Misaki also has a younger brother named Shiro. He’s five years younger than his sister.

This story takes place during everyone’s Academy days. So Sasuke is still in the village, the Third Hokage is still alive, Naruto’s still saying “believe it!”, etc. Any other stories in this series will take place between original Naruto and Shippuden, or during Shippuden.

Misaki’s mother is from the Land of Hot Water since that’s where the Chinoike clan lives. Misaki herself has never been there.

Shiro has yet to awaken his Ketsuryūgan.

Akira has helped train Misaki in the appropriate ways to use her dojutsu.

Since Misaki is Guy’s goddaughter, that makes Shiro his godson.

Guy’s team (Lee, Tenten, Neji) is familiar with Kakashi and his family.
