Bilbo's fascination with elves is becoming a problem in Rivendell because the elves seem to have a fascination with him too and it looks almost like they're attempting to steal the hobbit for themselves. This, of course, will not stand amongst the dwarves, who hae decided to do whatever it takes to make sure Bilbo leaves with them.

Gandalf had once said, at the very beginning of the quest before Bilbo had signed anything, that if Bilbo returned, he would not be the same Hobbit as the one who left. Perhaps Gandalf had the gift of foresight or perhaps he just knew a thing or two about adventures. Either way, he was quite correct.

Following the Battle of the Five Armies, Thorin's belief in Bilbo's betrayal has lessened, but not enough to take back his banishment. Bilbo and Gandalf travel to Rivendell, where Lord Elrond insists that they remain, due to Bilbo's pregnancy. When an dwarven envoy is sent to express gratitude to the elves, parts of the old company come as well. Bilbo has a choice to make. MPREG
