![]() Author has written 5 stories for Fringe, Inception, and Warm Bodies, Isaac Marion. 11/1/2013: New chapter of 'Being Still is a Habit' posted! There is another in the works that will be posted soon. Happy November, everyone! Writing is my escape. It has been over two years since the last time I was able to write anything. I owe everybody who was kind enough to review my stories a HUGE apology for falling off the map for so long. Some major stuff has happened in between: I moved across the country, started graduate school, played roller derby with a major league, fell in and out of love, and had to quit derby because of a major injury. Maybe you can find it in your hearts to forgive me? Anyway, I'm currently a grad school student in the sciences. I write fanfiction because it makes me happy (and hopefully makes other people happy, too), and because I am a diehard romantic and it's kind of compulsive. I have a calico cat named Cinder who sleeps on my feet every night and chews on the houseplants unless I buy her a carton of wheatgrass to chew on instead. I am vegetarian. I love to travel. I love to cook. I love music. I listen to a lot of classical music--I love Dvorak--and a lot of movie soundtracks. Of course I adore the Beatles. I also love The Decemberists, Bon Iver, Death Cab for Cutie, Muse, The Fratellis, Mumford and Sons, Snow Patrol, and Band of Horses. And Simon and Garfunkel. Ha. I read voraciously when given the opportunity. I think my all-time favorite book is Sabriel by Garth Nix, which I have re-read countless times since I discovered it in the seventh grade. Other authors I enjoy are Neil Gaiman, China Meiville, Sherryl Jordan, Robert Holdstock, George R.R. Martin, J.K. Rowling, Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, and of course J.R.R. Tolkein. I also love John Krakauer and Oliver Sacks, but that's nonfiction. My taste in movies... well, ironically I don't do horror movies (it's not exactly the gore that does me in, it's the human depravity). Some of the movies I love include Amelie, Princess Mononoke (essentially anything by Miyazaki), The Illusionist, V for Vendetta, Little Miss Sunshine, Australia, Star Trek, Titan A.E., and Across the Universe. I guess almost anything by Baz Lurhman, actually--Romeo Juliet and Strictly Ballroom, and Moulin Rouge! as well as Australia. Oh, and Up, which is the most adorable movie that I've ever seen. Aw. As far as TV shows go... I'm a fairly huge Joss Whedon fan, so Firefly and Buffy are pretty high up there on the list. And of course Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. I also really enjoyed HBO's Rome and Deadwood (which are seriously not for the faint of heart, but I'm a sucker for a good costume drama). I love Inception because it was a) wonderful and clever and mind-bendy b) the acting was superb c) Ellen Page is adorable and d) Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a three-piece suit is probably the hottest thing since sliced bread. Sizzle. I love Fringe for about 8 zillion reasons. But a few are that the acting is superb, and they seem to generally get the science right, which I appreciate (or vaguely right--it is science fiction, after all). And because I think I want to be Olivia Dunham when I grow up. Or maybe Walter. I love Warm Bodies because it is hilarious, adorable, and absolutely sweet. | |||||||
