![]() Author has written 102 stories for Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Labyrinth, Pretender, and Supernatural. Dear Russell... How COULD you let this happen? The House of Ravenclaw "Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure." After repeated and persistent failure to deal with these thudding plot bunnies, I have found a group to help people like me, people who cannot walk out their front doors without being assaulted by bunnies. This LJ Community, The Bunnies Have the Phone Box, is an adoption agency for plot bunnies of all shapes and sizes. We call it DWPlotBunnies for short. Welcome to the Challenges of the Month. This month's challenges are available on DWPlotbunnies and responses should be linked there - or PM me and I'll link them. August Challenge 1: Party Crashing... Take a set-up or episode from your favorite television show, a scene from your favorite movie, or a part of your favorite book. Insert the Doctor Who characters of your choice. They can pop in to visit the main characters or replace the characters entirely, it's up to you. Be creative in your interpretation or stick exactly to the script (but explain how you've made the DW characters play this way, of course.)
For the month of October 2008, a group of us worked on a round robin entitled "I Miss My Mind the Most". The group involved is Silver Wolf 07, Olfactory_Ventriloquism, Kathryn Shadow, The Chibi's Are Stalking Me, Isis the Spinx, NewDrWhoFan, and my barking mad self. Published daily under the user name "OctoberProject". Now cross-posted by the same name on Teaspoon. Please read and review. For October 2009, the group increased its membership and went to work on a story-teller project called "Companionable Tales". In addition to the previously mentioned membership, we added cordelia_lear, GSRgirlforever, Rynne, and TardisIsTheOnlyWayToTravel. For October of 2010... we'll see. The basis of the religion of the Discordians, as mentioned in Kallisti, is true. I have decorated it at the edges to make it work as a system of government, but the majority of the groundwork is not my own. It was invented or discovered or revealed, or whatever you would call it when Eris makes a major scene, to two gentlemen who came to call themselves Malaclypse the Younger and Lord Omar Ravenhurst, known respectively as Mal-2 and Omar for short. The Principia Discordia is available publicly and you are welcome to distribute it as the goddess so annoys you, due to the fact that all rights have been reversed. Omar's opus has been on several misadventures, and I'm not sure anyone ever saw it - possibly even Omar, but don't tell him I said that. Kallisti is based on the planet Malaclypse, second planet out from a star known as Discordia on local stellar maps, and orbited by a single large moon (which isn't actually a moon, but in fact a twin planet) called Omar. A nearby system houses the Planetary Confederation of Colonies, four terra-formed worlds, three of which are gone now, the survivor of which is Zydrestra. They took and crammed the names of all the original colonies and their sub-colonies together to come up with a name for themselves, hence the inelegant nature of their collective name and the Discordian tendency to simply refer to them as Greyfaces. Further information will be added as it comes to me. About my Doctor Who work I have been writing Doctor Who since I could hold a pen, which is more than twenty-five years. I have worked with a LOT of theories over the years. I have also shot down quite a few, helped people cobble together a few, and ditched more than my fair share as something shot them full of holes. -Lungbarrow: The Lungbarrow hypothesis and story arch are, to put it plainly, a wreck. 1) Time Lords have never shown signs of being anything but thoroughly superior beings, by their own opinions. They are not subject to primitive anything, and I sincerely doubt something like a "Pythia Curse" could or would work on them, never mind make sense of them in any way. It involves superstitions, which they are against. It involves religion, which they don't particularly have, it involves a curse, which is magic, which they do not believe in. All in all, that's done that in. 2) Watch the end of "The Five Doctors". In this episode, Rassilon unravels the entirety of five scrambled time-lines for the Doctors, plus any of Susan's or Romana's that may have been effected. He sorts out the TARDISes, sends four of the five Doctors back where they belong, turns the bad guy into a marble statue of a bad guy and, for an encore, zaps the Master back out into time and space where - I quote - "His sins will find their punishment in due time". It's very impressive, no matter how you look at it. Then, there's the fact that he did EVERY LAST BIT OF THIS while LYING STONE DEAD on his plinth. It's pretty obvious that he was a god - a being whose will is reality. If he was a god, and if he was a bad guy, as Lungbarrow maintains, there is NO WAY he could have been removed from power. He had to have stepped down voluntarily. 3) The "Other" committed suicide to make a political point. This is something the Doctor would NEVER do. First of all, because it is a useless waste of life and, more importantly, because there's no way to be dead and fix things if something goes wrong with the plan. 4) No matter how similar your genetics, even one generation is likely to run from an unknown descendent. See Pete Tyler II for details. No way would someone pick up a stray child from a zillion years ago referring to them as "grandfather". 5) I think this is the most important. The entire House had reduced themselves to a bunch of blind moles grubbing in the dirt to a sorceress's whims. There has never been any proof that Time Lords are likely to do something so utterly, unfathomably insane as this. Ever. 6) Lungbarrow is a decidedly ugly word. The Doctor is a decidedly beautiful concept. No way the two go together. The "Half-Human on my Mother's Side" theory: I don't buy this one simply because there has never, ever been anything in the canon to support it in any way, shape, or form. I think the easiest way to write it off is the Mirror of Erised effect. The Master saw in the Eye what he wanted to see - proof that he was superior to the Doctor. The Doctor knew what the Master saw and went with it. We actually have no idea what he WOULD have told Grace. He told her "I'm half-human" with a witness and, if it were true, the Doctor NEVER would have mentioned it where he could have been overheard by, say, Torchwood, UNIT, LINDA, or the bloke listening to them. I like my Doctor a nice, complex, and complete alien. So sue me. Oh, well, this one's been cleared up. I suppose. My own theory: Every manageable detail of my own theory is woven into the story "A Long History". The paired stories "How He Loved Her" and "When You're Older" are directly linked to "A Long History". "Wayward Son" should also be considered perfectly in keeping with this. "Relics of Eternity", the full-length sequel, begins posting as of January 1, 2009. The following have references to the "Long History" 'verse (hey, I created a 'verse, am I cool, now?) and should be considered "semi-official" as opposed to completely official: -Earliest known sighting of any of it: "A Week in the Life" -Based on some of the ideas, but not completely official: "Kallisti", "They Wouldn't Dare", Chapters 5 & 8 of "The Ends" -Makes vague mention: "Different Morality", "Wiggle Room" -Doesn't contradict and doesn't interfere with stated canon, call it mostly official: "Misadventures in Babysitting" -Hint, Hint: "A Member of the Wedding" The following stories are outside of the "Long History" 'verse: -Random: "To Tell the Truth", "Doctor Pan", any chapter EXCEPT 5 & 8 of "The Ends", "Kissing Candies", and "Is This the Part?" -Holiday Reunions, just for fun: "Wishful Thinking", "If Found Please Return" -Honestly disgusting if "A Long History" is taken into account: "Paying for It" My Playground: -"The Random Factor" - Anything can happen there. Absolutely ANYTHING. Completely AU: -"Never Quite Normal" - an AU take on the Ninth Doctor, working in collaboration with Olfactory Ventriloquism. This takes one theory that does show in "A Long History" and expands it exponentially, but it is not in any way related to any of my other stories. It's also rated "M" for a list of very good reasons. And I love it, VERY much! -!-Never Quite Normal is currently nominated for Round II of the "Children of Time" awards in the WIP category. We're completely thrilled and very grateful. -!- The link to Pairadox Timeline is here The link to Rose's flowers is HERE I did not want to be a shipper. I've been a Doctor Who fan for eons, and it just wasn't about the romance. It was about the other stuff. However, with the words "I create myself", I became an indelible Doctor/Rose shipper. I always will be, and nothing can change that. But I'm done, now. No more Doctor romance for me. I'll take plot and bad aliens and craziness, please. The romance wasn't necessary for 35 years, so we can stop now. I have now acquired an account on Teaspoon. Yay, me! There is currently one work there that is not also present here, called "Tangled Up In Blue". Take a look. I also seem to have a Live Journal. Everything I publish goes there with the single exception of NQS. Current saying for the edification of the masses: "If I had time to do half the things I wanted to do, I'd still not have enough time!" BILLBOARD NOTICE: I have started a C2 for the funniest HP fics on FFNET. Mostly Canon or canon-esque, there are a few parodies too funny to leave off, and the very best humorous one-shots. You will find there such authors as the delightfully ecstatic Charmingly-Holly, the whimsical twists of Cogit8or, the brilliant wit of Evadne, the mind-bending, dark humor of Ruskbyte, and of course, one of the funniest unfinished fanfics of all time, "Rebellion" by Tatra Megami. If you think your fic or someone else's belongs on this list, please let me know. |
