![]() Author has written 1 story for Pokémon. Greetings, FanFiction readers and writers! Profiles tend to be filled mainly with a million "copy this into your profile" things, so I won't bother with a very long profile. I enjoy humorous stories. I like writing stories that can make me laugh. My hope is that if I find something funny, someone else will too. Coming up with an actual plot for a story is hard for me. Until I get better at it, I plan to mainly stick with oneshots. I enjoy Pokemon and Neopets, despite the fact that they are supposedly for little kids (and that Neopets isn't nearly is fun since Viacom took it over) because once I'm addicted to a game... yeah, I'm stuck with it. I also like South Park and The Office (American version). I do NOT like slash. I believe it is ridiculous. I laugh at people who enjoy slash while simultaneously leaving reviews saying that a character seems a bit OOC. Slash is OOC by definition: the relationships in slash do not exist in canon. The characters involved, if any sort of sexuality is given to them, are typically straight. However, since slash is incredibly common in many fandoms (I'm looking at you, South Park fandom) I am willing to ignore it without comment. What do you think I am, a troll? Sheesh. Question: What percentage of FanFiction authors understand that they don't have to write romance stories? "Oh, sure, we write a ton of slash, but there are mostly male characters, so what else are we going to do?" Uh... write something besides romance? Go ahead and write it sometimes, but all the time (or even a majority of the time) seems a bit much. Here are some thoughts about the relationship between the writer and the reader... Sometimes I see people who, after being given negative reviews, insist that they are writing for themselves and they don't care what others think. If you truly are only writing for yourself, you do not have a reason to publish your work where everyone can see it. Authors should try to please themselves, of course, because who will like it if the author doesn't? However, it is more important to make sure readers can enjoy your work. They are the audience. You shouldn't just bow to their will, but they are nonetheless the chief party. If you just want to write for yourself, get a notebook or something and put everything where only you will see it. Have you ever seen an author go ballistic after someone tells him or her that they don't think their story is wonderful? There is a difference between constructive criticism and flaming. Sadly, too many authors don't realize this. Criticism is a good thing; it tells the writer ways he or she can improve. Criticism includes no insults and describes what the actual problem is. Flames are unhelpful and usually personally insult the author. So what happens if too many writers get constructive criticism and flaming mixed up? Many people will simply refuse to offer criticism because they don't want to have an author blow up in their faces. I am not one of those authors. I actually WANT criticism, because it will help me become a better writer. Too many reviews simply include a short, "Wow, I like this!" or something similar. At the very least, I would like people to describe exactly what they liked. Did they like a certain character's personality? Did certain lines make them laugh? Do they think the plot is interesting? More importantly, I want people to tell me what could use improvement. I cannot hope to work through my shortcomings if I don't know they are there. Reviewers should not worry about hurting the author's feelings. Okay, it's wrong to purposely insult writers. As I mentioned earlier, flames are bad. Sadly, it seems too many reviewers believe the purpose of reviewing is to build up the author's self-esteem. Reviews do not exist for the author's ego. They exist so readers can tell the author what they think about a story. With that in mind, reviewers need to be honest. If there is something they don't like, they should be nice about it and offer a way to fix it instead of just whining about it. I have read profiles where authors say that they don't like constructive criticism because it makes them feel like they can't fix their own problems. Other people are a lot more likely to find a problem than the author. Why do you think there are editors in the real world? Even in a setting like school, you are supposed to have several other people look over your papers so you can edit them before you turn them in. Trust me, I know exactly how the authors who dislike criticism feel. I prefer to solve problems on my own, too. I always hate going and getting help if I don't understand something. But I also know enough to realize that other people are a great source of information. How stupid would I have to be to ignore that? Ever notice how few people act their age? Everyone either acts older or younger. There should be some kind of test that would let everyone know what your mental age is. Then you could not let people below a certain mental age see or do certain things. Things which should only be allowed for people of a certain mental age or higher: THIS SITE. We could solve all problems on here of whiny authors who think the world revolves around them if we had a minimum mental age. Other sites which let users submit content. Heck, the whole internet. The cool teachers and professors. The ones who let students get away with whatever. South Park. Futurama. The Daily Show. The Colbert Report. Okay, all of Comedy Central. All TV, except for stuff like Nickelodeon and ABC Family. Summer jobs. Movies rated R. Not letting people under 17 in without an adult just doesn't work. Movies rated PG-13, now that I think about it. Alcohol. The rules don't work with keeping immature people away from this, either. Tattoos. Coffee. College. Maybe even high school. A driver's license. More to come... probably when someone pisses me off. |
