Author has written 4 stories for Samurai 7, Bleach, and Samurai Deeper Kyo. This section will be filling up shortly, but just to let you know in case you've stumbled somehow on this miserable account, I'm a newborn but already diehard Samurai 7 fan, specifically... KyuzoFan... Feel free to contact me at any time you want to discuss the anime and lavish words over the blond samurai... Two comments I saw on the net which express my personal feelings about him (can't really say who posted them and where): 'I like my men tall, skinny and skilled with a sword or two of them...' '~drools, drools and drools a little more~' Kyuzo the droolworthy. As soon as I work out my T-shirts with him on the front, I'm going to post the looks of them somewhere for the world to see... Addition as of 12-08-2007: I'm really hooked up on Bleach now, as well. Actually, Samurai 7 was the first anime I watched (as an adult and of choice, that is; I don't count the animes I was subjected to when I was small). Bleach is the second. I think I will stop here for now in order to savour them both as long as possible. I rather thought that the story would be somewhat plain, but it was utterly overwhelming and captivating, and I so like its twists and turns. My only regret is that I watched 130 episodes inside a week, which means that the trickle of one episode per week (and now is the summer hiatus) is going to drive me absolutely up the wall. Well, my OTP as far as Bleach is concerned is Ichigo/Uryuu, because they go so well together. I plan on writing fanfiction some more, now that I've tried it and discovered that it doesn't really hurt . So far I've only posted two small pieces, but this is going to change, hopefully. Addition as of 23-12-2007: I've added Prince of Tennis to my favourite animes. I like to watch one anime series, one by one, and hold them close to me for as long as possible in order to derive maximum enjoyment. Prince of Tennis is great. Well, I find an OTP in every anime I watch, so my pairing here is Ryoma/Tezuka. How about this :) Addition as of 21-01-2008: Topic of the week is Samurai Deeper Kyo. Really, I like choosing one series at a time just so that I can take as much enjoyment as possible from it. But this story... Well, it really makes my blood boil in a good way. I do not intend to watch the anime as I heard a lot of negative reviews about it, and anyway the manga is just too good. I did not manage to read all of it, since volumes 17-32 have not been translated into any recognizable (for me) language, so I'll have to wait even if it kills me (and it does!) All in all, a rather good story and characterization! Excluding the typically Japanese features of it (which are all right, I don't mean to criticize a Japanese manga for its... 'Japanese-ness'), it has universal themes and plot twists, but not in a cliche'd way. I like such stories and I hope to write some in the future (original fiction) that would be as good as this one. Well, I'm really hooked on fantasy right now. Pairing of the week: Kyo/Yuya. Anyone who takes a look at the pairings will see that I'm rather coservative (if you think there is such thing as a conservative slasher) and a terminal romantic. Addition as of 01-05-2008: Well, folks, I admit that I'm well and truly hooked. I've found the one manga for me, the one and only. There can never be another! And this is... Ouran High School Host Club! I'm finally ready for this admittance: I'm definitely shojo inclined, but this is hardly a miracle, considering the demographics of this section and the target characteristics. I've always had a weak spot for handsome guys, and when they are in scores like these over the pages of Bisco Hatori, I'm afraid my resistance is that of a willow tree in a storm. I bend and go with the wind, my friends. And I'm quite happy with it. My favourite pairing is Tamaki/Haruhi (again, I'm rather conservative and terminal romantic, see above). Although I've given Kyoya/Tamaki some consideration as well. But you know what? You know? I finally discovered the inner mechanics of the weird slasher attraction that I hold for these couples (for clarity I should insert here that I also ship Draco/Harry in the HP fandom, although I'm a lurker there... not that I have done the world a great lot of good in the other fandoms) - it is the combination of a megane character with a popular, attractive, showy guy. I mean, think about the usual characterizations - the fanon profiles - of the three couples. Usually one of them is described as tight-assed, meticulous to the point of mania, pristine and insisting on decorum - that would be Kyoya, Uryuu and Draco. This is usually the megane character, except for Draco, where the roles are reversed in this detail. The other one is an easy-going hero with a nonchalant attitude when he is not throwing life and heart into the battle for his friends and for the greater good (Ichigo, Harry, and, hah, Tamaki). Consider that these are very different types of stories. One is a Western novel for kids, another is a shounen manga, the third is a shojo manga. I believe you could actually include the Ryoma/Tezuka couple here as well, with Tezuka being - obviously - the megane, tight-assed, orderly, disciplined character. So, we have repeatedly come to the same profiles. Cultural influences? Hardly, more like psychological archetypes of the stories making their way upwards. Of course, you should account for the fact that many of these fanon profiles were actually generated by the fans and then the similarity could be explained without resorting to stuff about people having actually the same matrices in their heads - some fans read the work of others and decided to emulate. Addition as of 07-02-2010: I watched Sherlock Holmes a couple of weeks ago and I remembered how much I love Arthur Conan Doyle's stories. (His detective stories, I mean; I doubt I would be as entertained by his other works, as he justly feared would happen with Sherlock fans.) I had difficulty accepting Robert Downey Jr's characterization. I found too many similarities with House M.D., which is just as well, because I like House, but then again no, it isn't, because House is based on Holmes and Sherlock Holmes 2009 is based on House, so it is a perversion... is it not? Well, frankly, I've come to believe it a good thing for a couple of reasons. First, this gives more life to this classic story and will drive a lot of people to read the books. Second, this is really a rather unusual Holmes, but it seems to me Guy Ritchie was right when he said they were just putting things on screen that were originally implied in the stories - the fighting, the drinking, the bad violin playing, the sarcasm. Third, I like this new, more human Holmes. He seems prone to the same mistakes that mortals make and I think this is great. I did not like Doyle's description of Holmes as an automaton, an inhuman machine. Most of all, I like the movie for the fact that it looks plausible - things with Holmes and Watson might have really been funny, bohemian and relaxed, but the stilted Victorian language forced them to look like a pair of dried crackers. There are indications enough in the dialogue between the two, if you read it with an eye in that direction. So, I'm going to write some fanfiction... |
