![]() Author has written 1 story for Maximum Ride. Name: Yeah nope! :) Alias/Pseudonym/Pen Name/Whatever: Call me either Scarlet or Amaya. To be honest, I go by Scarlet more now, but when I started on fanfiction, Amaya was my alias, so I'm used to both. Age: 17. (:O Bleh. I'll always be 5 at heart though.) Grade: In the awkward transition time between high school and the dreaded college life. :'D How did I even graduate, ugh. Random Info: I am a procrastinator. I am a very severe procrastinator. I am a very very severe procrastinator. (Have I mentioned that I'm a procrastinator?) ... I should be a) sleeping or b) doing my homework right now. This will always apply. I like talking to people online. I like words. Especially complicated vocabulary words. I read obsessively. Seriously. I like to reread stuff. I also like updates. I don't, however, like updating. I complain a lot. I can be really immature. I don't like to seem immature sometimes. I hate math. And history class. I love books. I write random scraps of prose that I delete all the time. I tend to have a better track record with poetry though. I swear like... like someone who likes to swear? Though I try to restrain from doing so. Because you never know who's reading. Or listening *looks around in paranoia*. I like hanging out with my twin, who can be found on the account Zwelight Eternity! Love you Twin! I can also be found on the joint-collab account Scarlet.Gellie.HA HA HA, and yes, as your amazing deductive powers have probably told you already, I am Scarlet. We've written one story, and it's about Rozen Maiden. So yeah. I'm not active anymore writing-wise, but I hope to make a comeback eventually. I mean, I'll try. As much as possible. Fingers crossed and all. I still read a lot, but I often forget to login, so there's just generally not a lot going on in my account. Life sucks and then you die, so why do we even bother trying? ;) About Me In Regards to Writing (and Reading): Might as well, yeah? Well, first of all, I'm not too discriminate about what I read. I mean, I do have some pet peeves (as listed below), but if the plot is good enough (yes people. the plot is everything) then I'm able to disregard the first six pet peeves in my list... but only somewhat. As a general rule of thumb, I just favorite whatever I enjoyed enough to want to reread. Additionally, I'm easily entertained enough that not everything in my favorites list is the pinnacle of quality, haha. Just a warning to those who feeling like browsing my favorites. Secondly, I like darker, possibly angst-filled stories, though I also enjoy humor and crack fics. That being said, good ones of both are in rather short supply, so there won't be many in my favorites. Or anyone's favorites for that matter. Third, I do have fanfictions tagged "Romance" in my favorites. Am I a shipper? Eh, sure, I'll occasionally attach myself to pairings, usually one of the rarer ones. Do I let my shipping influence my favoriting? Not really; typically I favorite stories tagged "Romance" because I like some other aspect of the story such as the humor, language, angst, etc. I'm not a huge shipper, honestly, and so any ships present within a story are almost never the cornerstone of my appreciation and don't tend to affect my appreciation of a fic. Okay! Moving on. Pet Peeves: 1) Mistakes in your title. It's your goddamn title; you see it every time you look at your story. It's the first thing you see! At least have the decency to spell and format it correctly. 2) An uncreative title. I'm talking about those titles you see all over the place using "substitutes" for people's names in their title to try to make it creative. An example would be the likes of "A Kitsune and a Raven" for Naruto, or "Strawberry and Snow" for Bleach — titles that just seem to scream the pairing into your face. Look, I don't really care what your pairing is. I'll read anything if it has elements that interest me. Have more imagination. 3) Mistakes in your summary. Again, the same idea as having mistakes in your title. Your summary is what people look at. Nobody's going to read your story if you have a typo-filled summary, unless they're feeling morbidly curious and want to see just how bad it is. 4) A crappy summary. I realize that "crappy" really depends on perspective. And as long as someone tried to make it slightly interesting, I'm fine with it. But I hate reading summaries that go, "What if blah blah blah blah blah" usually with a "I know my summary sucks, but the story is better!" tacked on, and then a plead to read despite the terrible summary tying it all up. Especially if it's a crossover, and that character then goes on to usurp the place of the main character of another story. You're not the hero of all the manga universes. Be the lifesaver in your own world, please. (e.g. for 3&4 combined, because they usually come hand in hand: What if Naruto was aktually smart and a shikigami and the hero of soul society and daiting Hianta and a bunch of other peoples? And what if he had complte acess to the kyubis powerand his zapakto and haited konha? I suk at summaries but plz r&r! NaruHarem!) And people actually have summaries like this. My fingers are already itching to go back and correct those sentences. 5) The (excessive) listing of the pairing in the summary. Okay, I realize that some people probably just scan over stories looking for that pairing sign. I bet NaruSasu fans only stop for stories that say NaruSasu in the summary. And that's okay. Sometimes, I do that too, to figure out which stories I want to avoid. But at the same time, there's something called a filter on FanFiction, where you can list the people who make up your pairing. So there is really no need for you to go "NARUSASU NARUSASU NARUSASU NARUSASU NARUSASU" in your summary. A simple SasuSaku, or IchiHime, or... I don't know, NaruSasuNaru for those really avid NaruSasu fan or so on and so forth will suffice. 6) Grammar and spelling mistakes. Okay, I'm sorry. I know so many people hate hearing this... but... there's something called spellcheck that's really useful, you know? And it's not just limited to Word and Pages anymore; FanFiction installed spellcheck in their Doc Manager ages ago. Not to mention the ever-present dictionary, as well as free online grammar checkers. And there are always ways to learn grammar on your own, not to mention the beta function helpfully present on this site. Reviewers also might stop by to drop some observations about phrasing and grammar that could be very helpful. Basically, there is no excuse for sloppiness! DDDDD: 7) When someone doesn't go back and fix their grammar and spelling mistakes. Okay, this probably stems out of me being slightly (pfft; "slightly") OCD about my own posted writing. But this bugs me even more than just having those technical mistakes. I always see these people who say, "I had to post this really quick so I apologize for the mistakes. Just deal with it, okay?" I mean, gah! There's a way to replace your chapter without deleting it! Fine, post it with some mistakes first, but then get rid of them! GAH. 8) Misuse of words. Dictionary. Read more books. Enough said. 9) Reuse of words. Alright, I realize that extensive vocabularies are hard to come by. I don't really have an extensive vocabulary either, by my own reckoning. But there's just something utterly wrong with reading, "he voiced" three times in a row. What happened to "said"? "Panted"? "Murmured"? All those other words that could just be substituted in? And having "monotone" appear three times in the same amount of paragraphs is just... no. No. 10) Clichés, done poorly. I have a problem with clichés, doesn't everyone? But if they're well written, I like them. I'm pretty sure I have quite a few in my favorites list. After all, there is no new idea under the sun. (Look, a cliche! ;) I'm so witty, right?) It's when the cliché becomes utterly cheesy that I draw the line. 11) Cheesiness. And therein lies my problem with cheesiness, which usually goes hand in hand with clichés, romance, and fics ending with the line "I love you too." *Hearts float in the air and the couple snuggles even closer.* 12) Plot holes. Some people can ignore these; I can't really. It's especially annoying when the author just offhandedly remarks in their A/N that: "You guys may be wondering where *insert important character's name* is. Don't worry; he's fine. Just off doing... something." Plot holes drive me absolutely insane, even more when I see them in my story. 13) Self-inserts that are Mary-Sues (and the occasional Gary-Stu). Don't even get me started. I could write a rant that stretches a whole page long about them. They're unrealistic. They shove the original main character out of their reigning seat and unceremoniously crown themselves queen (and the occasional king). Most of them are paired with whatever character the author finds most appealing at the time, resulting in a hot and heavy romance the author wishes would happen to them. They are either: a) cold, emotionless "BAMF"s that completely overpower whoever comes near them except for the love interest with whom they slowly fall in love with and eventually admit that "you're the only one I've ever gotten close to after my baby sister died" or b) that shy blushing kid who's had a crush on the love interest forever yet never managed to summon up the guts to confess, resulting in unhappiness, possibly suicide, which the love interest saves them from; the love interest then tells the OC that he/she loves him/her, and they live happily ever after or even c) the flirt that gets everyone to fall for them headfirst from the first meeting by being equally beautiful and charming and even innocent sometimes but eventually confesses to one special person out of all of their starry-eyed admirers and cue squealing from the author. (Admittedly this one doesn't happen all too much.) Usually a story with a Mary-Sue has heaps and piles of candy fluff dumped on top, sprinkled with massive handfuls of shredded cheese. Suffice it to say: they grate on my nerves. Really badly. And because of them, I generally ignore almost all OC-centered stories, with Rozen Maiden fics as the only exceptions. Because it would be kinda hypocritical of me. And because the people with good grammar/spelling/stories usually have at least a modicum of imagination and don't go around naming their characters Hikari or something equally droll like Yume. (Look at that. I got myself started, and actually managed to cut down on it a little. What a miracle. You should hear me really go at it.) I am currently actively reading in the fandom of: I'm Everywhere. It Makes My Head Spin. Current Obsession: So Many That I Can't Keep Track. Ramblings: 1) I want to start writing again, but... school. Homework. Tests. And also other fanfictions that are just really good. How am I supposed to focus on writing when there's so much other stuff to do? I also feel bad that my single oneshot collection has been sitting there for almost 4 years with only two chapters when I originally planned for 5 or 6. :'D Though honestly, nobody cares about it except for me haha. 2) I need to find new fandoms; I've pretty much sucked the ones that I already traverse in dry. 3) Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them \o/! I think I just found my new (small-ish) fandom. :D 4) ... Tyki Mikk is awesome. Enough said. (D.Gray-Man) 5) Both Tensa Zangetsu and Ulquiorra are adorable like... like plush-toys. Honestly, I just really like their character designs. And yes, this will be a permanent fixation on my list. Even when it does not apply to my current obsession. (Bleach) The Truth of a Reader When you look at a reader you see a person that's smart and gets good grades. A person who has a imagination greater than some and can come up with great stories. But do you really know a reader? A reader is someone who buries their time in a book to be cut off from the rest of the world. A reader is someone who put themselves into a book to be cut off from the shit that the rest of the world gives them. A reader is someone needs to see the pain of themselves in another person to find the meaning. A reader is someone who feels depressed and needs to be alone. Now do you know a reader? |
