![]() Author has written 18 stories for Mortal Instruments, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, All Our Yesterdays, Cristin Terrill, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Lunar Chronicles, Ranger's Apprentice, Splintered Series, and Suits. When there are two boys and one girl in a story, do you go insane? I do. But that is the foundation of all romance novels. Or at least most. Who wants to read about a happily ever after that ends the way it starts? Example: beginning- "Romeo, I love you! Let's be together forever!" end- "Juliet, I love you! I agree with what you said some six hundred pages ago; we should be together forever!" And then the book gets published and read and fangirled over. It's ridiculous. Look at the Mortal Instruments. That forced platonic/but-not-really relationship between two lovers. And then the vampire best friend that gets in the middle and can't decide between a hot demon-killer chick and a red-head who always maintained and will always maintain a platonic bond with him. I wasn't yet done with the first book when a friend of mine spotted me with it and said, "Oh, that? Yeah, the boy Jace turns out to be the main character's brother." I died. Then I came back to life when I read City of Glass, because hello! Clace 4 LIFE. That, my friends, is called a plot. While I'm ranting about the most random stuff, let me just say that people (mostly adults) who ask me either "What is your favorite book?" or "Who is your favorite author?" deserve to be locked up in Azkaban. My response is usually something obscene or "Malfunctioning. Malfunctioning," on good days. The favorite book question is impossible to answer, I'm afraid. As is any question posed about favorite ships. However, I may be able to answer the second question is listed 3 sentences above. My favorite author is Cassandra Clare, because of her writing and the fact that she lives nearby and the fact that she has a LiveJournal and the fact that her amazing name is actually a pen name and the fact that she isn't one of those perfect, beautiful authors with rich yet highly adult published novels. (take breath here). Authors like Jhumpa Lahiri who are perfect in looks and possibly in writing (I have no idea, I haven't read her books) are farther from my book-adoring heart. I like authors who are down-to-earth real people, with faults like everyone else. Even if you are famous, I think it would be better if authors really made themselves more known to their fans. That way, we fans can relate to our fav writers. Another book I'm crazy about is The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black. Now, I'll be real with you: I'm actually not that big a fan of Holly Black. But I love this one book. Tana's always just barely keeping it together, juggling a suicidal girl, a wimpy human boy, a bloodthirsty ex-boyfriend, and an extremely insane and volatile vampire. The plot twists are unexpected yet make total sense. I love Gavriel's relationship with her, how he's always trying to be better than he thinks he is, trying to hide the monster for her sake. It's just- ugh! You have to read it. Oh, and then there's the His Dark Materials series by writing god Philip Pullman. Words cannot describe how much I love this series. I've read it a million times over. Suffice to say, it's on par with Harry Potter in my books. (no pun intended. lol.) |
