MY RANDOM RANTS:

Mary sues, I find that a lot of Mary Sues (Gary Stu's, what ever) don't need to be Mary Sues. A lot of it is the way you introduce the character. For example very few people would think of Percy Jackson or Harry Potter as Mary sues. Why? I think it has to do with the way that characters are introduced. Percy Jackson and Jason Grace aren't too different but I have seen almost no people being all "I hate Percy he's such a sue" and heaps of people thinking that Jason is. I think this both the fact that most people who don't like Percy probably wouldn't want to continue reading the series and also because their introductions are very different. When we first see Percy, he's had a rather undramatic life, he was an underachiever and only had one friend. However when we meet Jason he's already done lots of stuff-we haven't seen him become this person. When you read about a character it's far more interesting to see rather than to hear about things that they have done (BTWs Jason is not a sue). Many people who's characters are considered sues could stop this by not having an as bad past that we just hear about, also don't have contradicting facts about them.
