Ezra wasn't on The Ghost when the ship fell into an Imperial ambush and was reportedly destroyed with all hands. The rage, pain and sorrow at the loss of his new family is too much for him. It is through those powerful emotions that the Dark Side will take hold over Ezra and his destiny. This remakes Ezra into a deadly agent of the New Order and a willing servant to the Dark Side.
